With Friends Like Bush...
Imagine that somebody in power made it impossible for you to do your job, then watched as you were fired for not doing your job, then appeared on TV with your long-time nemesis, who had participated in making it impossible for you to do your job, and declared his support for you.
That's what President Bush has done to Mahmoud Abbas, the president of the Palestinian Authority. After free elections created a government divided between Abbas' moderate Fatah party and the radical Hamas party, Bush and his Israeli counterpart, Ehud Olmert, imposed such strict sanctions on the Palestinians that even those who had jobs weren't getting paid. Hamas would not and did not stand by and let this happen: The group overthrew Fatah in the Gaza Strip. Today, Bush and Olmert stood in the Oval Office together and declared their support for Abbas. Seriously? Here's the kiss of death: Bush called the emergency prime minister Abbas appointed "a good fella." Brownie, anyone?

Hahaha, a "good fella"? Really? How does that translate into Arabic?
The reason this blog has a readership of two is because the stories posted are often off point. It's really strange Mojo hasn't posted anything on how the Muslims are flipping out over the knighthood of Rushdie. Furthermore, Mr. Scott's comments make little sense out of an already complex situation in the middle east. You amerikan so dumm...

Olmert came to give orders to Bush. Bush is the puppet of the Zionists. Now it appears that Abbas is the puppet of Bush, with the pat on the head, "that's good boy." How many more days will it be before the Palestinians get somebody else who is not a lap dog of the Zionists? The Palestinians had the elections like they were ordered to do, unfortunately, the results were not as expected by the masters and then the people did not get the tax revenue and they went hungry.

Hamas was legally elected by a majority of the Palestinian populace. Gee, that democracy--it's a bitch, ain't it?
Of course, the west is going to try to cut off Hamas, which means that groups inimical to the west will have a fine opportunity to support them. Not only will this further radicalize the Hamas, but it will pretty much kill any chances of dialogue with the legally elected government of Palestine. I suspect Abbas' days are numbered.

The United States has a long history of supporting "democracy" when it meets our ends. When "democracy" does not meet our ends, we supporty anything but democracy.
Just ask Castro, who originally attempted to reform Cuba through democratic means. If you don't believe Castro, then ask the Phillipines, Guatamela, Vietnam, Iraq or Iran.
