Senator David Vitter — Hurricane of Sex and Hypocrisy
We might feel bad about blogging a plain old sex scandal — I criticized FOX News for sucking at the teat of the Anna Nicole story — but when a sex story comes buried under mountains of hypocrisy, that's more than any blogger can resist.
First the basics: the infamous "DC madam" is a Heidi Fleiss clone who sent call girls to DC's elite. Now that she’s being charged with racketeering (not a particularly successful racket, by the way, netting her $2 million in 13 years), she’s on a helter-skelter campaign to generate media attention and make money while she can — and sink a few semi-famous people along the way.
She put a list of clients' phone numbers on her website yesterday and Senator David Vitter's number was on it. Vitter (R-LA), who is best known for misleading the public in the immediate aftermath of Katrina and then criticizing the feds response to the disaster, immediately owned up. "This was a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely responsible," he said in a statement to the press. He added that he has already made peace with his wife and his God.
But let's get to the hypocrisy, shall we? In 2004, when Vitter was a congressman running for a seat in the Senate, Vitter campaigned with a promise of "protecting the sanctity of marriage." He went on to become a co-author of the "Federal Marriage Act" that sought to prohibit courts from interpreting same-sex marriage laws, and said of marriage, "I don't believe there's any issue that's more important than this one."
Thought we were done? Nope. Vitter once compared same-sex marriage to hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The first line of his official biography reads, "David Vitter is dedicated to making life better for his young family and all Louisiana families."
But then, hypocrisy runs across Vitter's "young family." After extramarital affairs by Louisiana rep and now-you-see-him-now-you-don't Speaker of the House Bill Livingston were revealed, Vitter's wife was asked how she would react if her husband had been caught in an affair, like Livingston and Bill Clinton. "I'm a lot more like Lorena Bobbitt than Hillary [Clinton]," she said. "If he does something like that, I'm walking away with one thing, and it's not alimony, trust me."
Whoa! David Vitter's wife is awesome, even though she doesn't stand by her word. Actually, maybe she does and we just don't know about it. That would mean Vitter has paid for this more dearly than any of us know...
Oh, and PS — Vitter is the Southern Regional Chair of Rudy Giuliani’s presidential campaign. Man, Rudy is having a tough time down south. Considering the man's own sordid past, I guess it comes as no surprise that they aren't terribly serious about vetting people at his campaign.

It's getting harder and harder to keep up with the hypocrisy - almost a daily bloodletting.

If people haven't realized it by now, hypocrisy is the trademark of the Republican party.
The one thing I've noticed over the last several years is that when one of our politicians is pushing to pass a law against something, they are the most likely to be breaking it.

As a resident of New Orleans, I awoke to find Vitter's 'sin' splashed across the front of the paper. Those of us in New Orleans have known about Vitter's hypocrisy for a long time. There was a house of 'sin' in New Orleans that he also frequented. The headline was presented as if Vitter hasn't been caught with his hand in the cookie jar before. It should have read "Two madams and a Vitter"

How tendentious of Mojo to post this article. The "bloggers" here seem to have a skill for ignoring many interesting and relevant stories and pick up on stories that only support their agenda.

Question the party? Question Jesus!

Yes, this is getting pretty obvious. Those who wear their religion on their shirt sleeves have lots of secrets...deep dark secrets. The GOP is Hypocrisy. If you still think these Christian fascists have virtue you are a retard.

Mr. Fart - you're suggesting the MoJo bloggers have a partisan perspective? Well, duh! It's a blog, dude! And it's Mother-freaking-Jones! Any other brilliant insights you want to share?

now now butt fart ... dont be so bitter. with any luck a democrat or two will appear on that list; then you can jump up and down while frothing at the mouth muttering the gop mantra: "a nation of laws."
until then, just chill!

Mr. Butt Fart is so typical of the remaining "know-nothings" in this country. If President Bush ate a live baby on live TV, they'd find some reason to support this, or bring up how some Democrat ate an entire suckling pig at a state dinner B.F. has the moral integrity of a primal fig, though I shouldn't insult the fig, huh? It is sad, though, that he knew one long word, this means he is educated and has no excuse to be so dense and empty-headed.

Ritter deserves no compassion. The guy is a lawyer and knows everyone wants to get a hook in a U.S. Senator. The idiot was following his stupid boner. He totally disrespected his wife, marriage and what we know is probably just the tip of the iceberg.
I felt sorry for his wife having to stand up next to him before the press and say it's OK. What a bad day for her.

"He totally disrespected his wife, marriage and what we know is probably just the tip of the iceberg." That's what was also said of Bill, our beloved. Ms. Clinton said that her Methodist faith allowed her to forgive her husband. "I felt sorry for his wife having to stand up next to him before the press and say it's OK. What a bad day for her." Ms Clinton is a strong woman to do that. Bill said that it was "those demons" that made him do it. Let us all pray for Bill that he will not test his wife's faith again by having her forgive him.
Men will be men. Get use to it. Ms. Clinton said: "Christ said to love our neighbors and to forgive. " A prostitute doesn't threaten my marriage because there is no feeling. An affair would because too many men "fall in love" and the home wreaking Wxxxx insists that he dump his wife and marry her. By all means go to a working girl and have your fun. Throughout history, there was a societal reason for prostitutes. In Germany(an intellectually advanced European country) that profession is considered to be the same as any other and one can lose their unemployment benefits if they do not take that job.

This was perhaps the funniest thing I have read regarding David Vitter. Aletter to the Senator from Ignatius J. Reilly of A Confederacy of Dunces.

You socialist are enjoying a laugh - with each other - at the expense of a fascist dunce like Vitter. BUT, the white-trash middle-class peasants will still vote for these guys unless they are humiliated enough NOT too. Humans response to ridicule. None of the white-trash middle-class losers (the socialist’s natural constituency) takes your political ideas seriously, because the fascists and libertarians systematically laughed you guys off the stage years ago.
So, you might be having a good laugh with each other, but it won’t translate to victory unless you can keep the white-trash from voting fascists in 2008. It worked against YOU guys, it should would the other way too. But, you’d better be able to articulate the ridicule in a way that the white-trash middle-class comprehends. Will there FINALLY be a funded “Swift-Boat equivalent” for the Democrats in ’08?
