Michael Moore's More of a Left-Winger Than Hugo Chavez
Yup, this was Lou Dobb's parting blow after Michael Moore bulldozed over Wolf Blitzer during a recent interview on CNN. Moore surely doesn't need any publicity help from me, but this clip is priceless.
Moore, who got worked up and red-faced, got some good jabs in, criticizing CNN's coverage of Iraq and health care, but in the end he ends up looking belligerent and a little ridiculous. His loud barking covered up what could have been stellar points. He has this problem with his movies as well. His messages could surely go further if he brought down his level of grandstanding a notch or two. But then again, why change now? That's what has made him as successful as he is.
Comments
Poor Wolf Blitzer--he is such a hopeless hack.
Sure Michael Moore goes a little over the top (time and time again), but his outrage is generally so justified.
It's refreshing to see someone, anyone, red-faced or not call CNN and Wolf Blitzer on their bullsh*t.
Reminds me of when John Stewart ripped on Crossfire:

Michael Moore's main failing as that he looks like a beached whale. If he would lose some weight, he would have more creditable.

Michael Moore said he would prove that Dr. Sanjay Gupta's report was in error, and he did. He posted "SICKO Truth Squad sets CNN Straight" on his web site at:

Lou Dobbs was gracious enough to interrupt his signature perpetual harangue against illegal immigrants to attempt to malign Michael Moore by associating him with Hugo Chavez, in the barely functioning minds of his regular viewers. Which raises the question, "how many Lou Dobbs' can one fit on the head of a pin?"

I'm a little tired of people criticising Moore for his personal "style" (weight or mannerisms).
It's the message that's important, not the messenger. If he's right, he's right, no matter how fat or inelegant he may be.
He was no where near as red faced or belligerant as I would be in the same situation, and no, he didn't look "...a little ridiculous." He looked frustrated by the inability of the media in this country to do it's job.
He's been spot on in all of his films, spot on and rather prophetic.
And as always, if you think you can do a better job, get off your monday morning quaterbacking ass and do it... the phrase " His loud barking.." was particularly offensive to me, and manages to turn you into exactly what you complain about Moore doing... it turns you into a grandstander...Ohh look at me, look how critical I am!

Actually, Moore reaps what he sows. Maybe Sicko's use of facts and statistics are airtight and it's presentation spot on, but that would be a first for any of his films. He quite honestly has earned the vitriol he receives. Do his films have strong points of view and messages? Many times. But he fudges, omits, and manipulates in a way that is easy to contest and often times doesn't need to and this pretty much ruins his chance on convincing or even challenging a broad audience. So what a film that has those who 'eat from the same troff'(pardon the pun) dancing in the aisle just serves to piss off even the most open minded of the rest of the audience. (Or anyone that doesn't cling to ideology's that don't work in all situations.) So, Moore is irrelevant(in regards of influencing public opinion) to all but about 10% of the population and that seriously pisses him off.(And those like alan.) He goes on programs with a wuss like Blitzer to 'bark loudly' knowing that he won't really be challenged and refuses to acknowledge that he backed himself into the corner he's in long ago. I find it ironic that Moore calls CNN out for fudging facts and defenders like alan calls out anyone with the audacity criticize this buffoon when Moore himself is the arguably the biggest fudger and grandstander we've seen since Hearst. Live in your delusional state all you want, but Moore is what he is and 'real' people know it. He may make plenty more money over his lifetime, but his days of being anything more than a propagandist for left wing causes were over a long time ago.
On a side note, I usually don't like when people address his weight when criticizing his work, but in this instance it makes sense. This film is about the state of health care in this country. The health care stems first from promoting prevention, something Moore can't do effectively through a steady diet of Doritos and inactivity.

Michael Moore is making films. He's not making "documentaries". People who grinch about facts being "left out" or film being "edited" are missing the point completely. Don't shoot the messenger.

Dobbs is just mad because Michael Moore is a lot more popular than he is. Moore might be a "left-winger", but he is a far better example of a true "populist" and an even better example of what a patriotic American is, than Lou Dobbs will likely ever be in a trillion years.
Lou Dobbs is no more of a "populist", as he repeatedly calls himself, than Santa Claus; come to think of it, Old Nick is a much better example of a true populist. Perhaps Dobbs can play him in a new motion picture down the road when his tv show fizzles out; no doubt he has the build for it.

Reading about the likes of Lou Dobbs and his smart ass comments makes me feel sick-Oh!
I'd just like to say here, "Thanks Michael" for your entertaining format of investigative reporting. You are so needed in these times where the corporate media refuses to report on anything that is not approved by their owners.
Newscasts and reporters have sold out to their handlers. M. Moore is one of the few sources of independent journalism, readily available to the public through his movies and reviews that follow them. Because there are so few resources to learn the truth, this is one of the MAIN reasons the public is so dumb-downed and unable to knows what’s happening to them. American’s have become sheeple and walk around in a trance worrying about celebrities and sports teams, more than they consider the plight of the world, their fellow man, or even their next door neighbors. The Brit politician in the movie hit the nail on the head and Moore's point in the movie where he says we must become a nation of WE and lose the ME, is so perfect. This attitude would take care of many ills affecting humankind, particularly right here in the USA.

Once again the pinheads pick on and focus on Moore's weight than the importance, truth and reality of his messages. Take him out of the equation and replace him with somebody really Ugly faced looking but healthy? Does the message become more relavent or significant?? Is this Ugly person not allowed to comment on overused plastic surgery? I'm overweight, does healthcare/ or lack of/ not apply to me? Hypocrites!
"On a side note, I usually don't like when people address his weight when criticizing his work, but in this instance it makes sense. This film is about the state of health care in this country."

Weight is important. Nobody likes to look at a fat person who dresses like a slob. He is bad for green house gases.

Michael Moore is relevant because of the patent failure of mainstream media.

Dan,
The last paragraph of your vacuous, disingenuous comment is pathetic.
The vaule of an idea posed about health care in America (or anything else) is 100% independent from the personal health of the idea's originator.
You just wanted to put in a snarky comment about Michael Moore and Doritos.
Well, at least Michael Moore doesn't have some weird love/hate relationship with his spacebar! (See? Snarky is silly.)
But seriously, maybe if you learned to punctuate properly it would help your little invective comments just as an understanding of cimematic syntax has helped Michael Moore's little $4M/weekend polemic.

To Dan,
I appreciate your comments, but I think you missed my point ( probably my fault, I'm not much of a writer ).
Yes, I'm a supporter of his point of view, but what I really wanted to address with my post what what I see as an overemphisis on his "style", rather then his message. You can think about him whatever you want, but making documentaries about the people in our society that have zero representation in the MSM serves an important role of " checks and balance."
You say..."So what a film that has those who 'eat from the same troff'(pardon the pun) dancing in the aisle just serves to piss off even the most open minded of the rest of the audience. (Or anyone that doesn't cling to ideology's that don't work in all situations.)" Uhh, even FOX news says this is an excellent film...
not sure who your refering to as " real people", but it suddenly occurs to me that I'm wasting my time responding to your comment...except to say that the biggest fudger of facts, perhaps of all time, is President Bush...he fudges everytime he opens his mouth !

I caught a bit of the exchange between Moore and Gupta when it was replayed by Keith Olberman on Countdown. I wish I could see someone with some journalistic credentials explain just what was inaccurate about the information in "Sicko." Even if Moore leaves out those points that he believes do not support his message, it seems to me his critics, if they are to be taken seriously, need to put up or shut up. The only substantive criticism I have heard so far was a statement that the Cuban medical system has lots of problems. Well, duh! The fact that Cuba has the means to support any kind of government medical system at all is amazing to me, given what I have seen about the state of its economy for the past fifty years. The Canadian, British and French health care professionals and patients whom Moore presented in "Sicko" didn't seem to be under the influence of any propagandists in discussing their systems. I'm sure they have numerous problems to contend with in dispensing government funded medical care. The point is, their systems make ours look so inefficient, inept, riddled with greed, corruption and inequality that we are in no position to voice any criticism without looking completely foolish. Moore was willing to ask the kind of stupid questions most Americans would ask of these people, and his message really hit home for me. I can only hope that "Sicko" has the kind of impact on the politics of health care that we so badly need.

Lawyerfan, you're forgetting than the majority of the population in this country is white. Saying "socialized medicine" causes a “brown rash aversion” in whites. This rash make them remember “Oh yeah, socialized medicine might help ‘THOSE PEOPLE’, too”. Forget it. Whites – who are still the majority – are so confused about what government is for and what benefits they might want from it - that ALL they can know for sure is: Anything that’s being “given away” by the government helps “THOSE PEOPLE” and they don’t want it. I think the “world’s greatest generation” brought up their kids to think like this.

Didn't Michael Moore once sue Mother Jones? And I believe he won. This may explain the inane comments about looking "a little ridiculous." The editors of MJ should have mentioned that fact. (Maybe someone can confirm this story - about MM suing MJ.)

moore rocks, but his grandstanding is definitely an issue. he alienates too many people with his style and his overt, sometimes condescending bias. his 911 film could have been a central and positive influence on the 2004 election, instead he just pissed off a bunch of people and potentially energized the right. it isn't fair to say he had a net negative influence, but he certainly could have helped more. (haha) i'm concerned that his polarizing influence will undermine his efforts with healthcare. tone it down, moore and you'll reach much larger audience.
Posted by: gonz on 07/11/07 at 5:11 PM Respond
Michael Moore was the Editor in Chief of Mother Jones for a few issues way back in 1986.
I'm pretty sure he got fired, but I don't think he sued.
Posted by: Karate Kid on 07/11/07 at 5:53 PM Respond
"Michael Moore followed English and edited Mother Jones for several months. After being fired in the fall of 1986, Moore sued Mother Jones for wrongful termination, settled with the magazine’s insurance company for $58,000, and used part of the settlement as the seed money for his first documentary film." So Moore owes his start to fame to Mother Jones.
My personal opinion is that M. Moore is a fat pig that produces too much methane(fart gas)and CO2 from breathing. Please do not show any more pictures of him.
