New Intelligence Estimate: Threat Level Orange. Dark Orange.

The United States is paying about $280 million dollars a day for the war in Iraq. As Mother Jones reported in our Iraq 101 package, it's good money after bad. A new intelligence assessment confirms it, concluding that al Qaeda is as strong now as it was just before the September 11 attacks. That and there has been a proliferation of groups with similar ideology. Heckuva job, Georgie.

I guess we better retreat. If we stay, we might just make the terrorists angry. War is not the answer. What we need to do is get Dr. Phil and Oprah to facilitate a therapy session between Al-Qaeda and the US. If we better understand eachother, we can live together in a world of love and harmony, which, is the goal of Al Qaeda.

Vaggie, trying to be ironic? Obviously we can't facilitate a happy end with Al Qaeda even with the well-meaning efforts of Doc Phil, but we don't have to destroy the empire by exhausting our funds on a crummy war that hasn't made anything better for anyone and in fact has made quality of life worse for a great many.

Paul- agreed. Never supported Iraq. Many hard left anti-war people have the dilusion that pulling out will make us safer. While I DO think getting out of Iraq is a prudent thing to do at this point, taking a total passive approach will not work. If the anti-war hard left had their way, they would try and get Dr. Phil and Oprah involved. Also, stating the war is crummy is pointless, we all know that. No need to state the obvious.
