Bush to Congress: Don't Mess With Me on Iran, Either
Spencer Ackerman at Talking Points Memo picked out an interesting detail from a letter President Bush just sent to Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.). In addition to writing that he'll veto any measures to end the war in Iraq, Bush added that he will veto any congressional attempts to limit his ability to take military action against Iran. This could be the usual executive prerogative-thumping, but does it hint at an anticipated showdown over Iran? And if so, what does the White House think the congressional Democrats are cooking up? (And just as importantly, what the heck is the White House cooking up?)
To get a sense of what Congress could—and couldn't—do to tie Bush's hands on Iran, check out this recent MJ article by Jonathan Schwarz. If anyone in Congress is serious about preempting a strike on Iran, he concludes, they have to act sooner rather than later: "If the Democrats continue to sit tight as the White House decides its next move, the administration will have won the first battle of the next war without firing a single shot."

If the United States attacks Iran, the leader of Iran has threatened to use their oil supply as a political wedge between us, China, India, Japan and our supposed European "allies".
Jonathan Schwarz may be correct in stating "If the Democrats continue to sit tight as the White House decides its next move, the administration will have won the first battle of the next war without firing a single shot."
Perhaps however, what he should be pointing out is, the White House may win the first shot, but all of us will not only likely lose the war but, we will also likely lose the United States itself, entirely and altogether.
Can anybody here the missiles flying across the World War Three globe?
In major concessions to international demands, Iran has agreed to answer lingering questions about its nuclear experiments and will let U.N. inspectors return to a plutonium-producing reactor it is building, the International Atomic Energy Agency said Friday. The decision to cooperate more fully with the U.N. nuclear agency appears designed to weaken a U.S. push for tough new Security Council sanctions over Iran's nuclear activities. Iran also has scaled back its enrichment of uranium, IAEA head Mohamed ElBaradei said Monday, although it is still refusing to freeze that enrichment, a key international demand.

There is a legitimate concern that - if we leave Iraq - there will be a proxy war between Saudi Arabia and Iran. The Saudis will arm the Sunnis; Iran will arm the Shia. Who knows: maybe Turkey will arm the Kurds. Why isn't the Bush administration as bellicose about the Sauds sending weapons to Sunnis as they are about Iran sending money to the Shia? Why aren't they going ballistic over the mobilization of 140,000 Turkish troops on the Iraqi border?
The irony is that this proxy war has already begun while we are still there. We have evidence of this arms supply for both countries - yet the administration only waxes hysterical about the Iranian government. I guess that you can insert a knife into our troops backs without backlash if you refrain from badmouthing US foreign policy. The involvement of Packistan is also well documented - but they don't openly trash GW and gang so the lapdog media mostly ignores them - sticking those articles on back pages.

JT, regarding "legitimate concern", that is your opinion. The American people have thrown $600 billion into the war machine. We demand that no more money is thrown into the war machine. This middle east adventure is only for Israel. We have given Israel $100billion over the years, let them take care of themselves. If it wasn't for the Jewish political contributions and people like Libowits(aka Libby), Abramoff, and AIPAC we would not be involved in these middle east adventures, we would be like the EU and work with the oil producers, not with Israel who has no oil.

Remember there are eight more countries on Bush's list of countries to be attacked, so says Gen. Wesley Clark among others.
Bush, the Rethuglikkan Party and their enablers(right wing catholics, my religion, and right wing evangelicals who keep the party of death for profit in power and dominating american domestic and foreign policy are far from done and will not stop at Iraq and Afghanistan.
And Jeb Bush( no longer Methodist but a longtime right wing catholic is waiting in the wings.
