Romney Not Even President Yet, Already Abusing Power

It's a slow news day today, with the exception of the White House's unsurprising-if-you-know-this-crowd assertion that the Justice Department will never take up contempt charges filed by Congress against members of the White House unwilling to testify before Congress.

So let's go with this, shall we:

In an apparent violation of the law, a controversial aide to ex-Gov. Mitt Romney created phony law enforcement badges that he and other staffers used on the campaign trail to strong-arm reporters, avoid paying tolls and trick security guards into giving them immediate access to campaign venues, sources told the Herald.
The bogus badges were part of the bizarre security tactics allegedly employed by Jay Garrity, the director of operations for Romney who is under investigation for impersonating a law enforcement officer in two states. Garrity is on a leave of absence from the campaign while the probe is ongoing....
"They (the aides) knew the badges were fake and probably illegal," said a presidential campaign source...

Nice one-sided post. Cut out comments from Romney’s staff. Cut out where this was a crew that went before Romney to set up sites, and try and link Romney to something he never had any part of.

Shucks, we just got these badges after playing Skee-Ball for 36 straight hours--thought everyone would know we were just pretending to be cops.
What's the harm with a little make-believe, anyway?!
I mean, everyone let's us go along with the fantasy that a Mormon Republican from Massachusetts could be POTUS....

so, bjalder26, romney isn't a part of his own campaign? he has no accountability for the actions of his staff? god, imagine the media's response if hillary did this.

Mitt's too busy picking out the latest Cover Girl recommended blush to be concerned with illegal badges. Geez, a guy's gotta look good. Tennis, anyone?

We don't need no stinking badges!

the new mantra of the GOP is unaccountability, so why would we expect Romney, his acolytes, or bjalder26 to be any different? Having watched Bush get away with death and destruction and running roughshod over the constitution for seven years (well, actually his unaccountability goes back to at least college), is it any wonder that any Republican wouldn't want to emulate that? I mean, if you can do anything you please and get away with it, then why not? You can invoke so many excuses, from the bible to Karl Rove to executive privilege, and be pardoned/commuted if your attorney or excuse du jour isn't good enough.

Actually it's been personal responsibility, accountability, and free markets - for those not rich enough to bankroll political campaigns. For those fortunate few, it's been government protectionism, authority as gatekeepers to micromanage peoples' lives, and taxpayer subsidies. It's a fairly large constituency with gradations in government protection. I guesstimate that close to 25% of the population benefits from this government largesse. It's closer to 30% if you include the low income people on "welfare". Of course the GOP makes a huge deal about the paltry sums of taxpayer money spent on those layabouts.

bjalder26:

Jay Garrity is (or was) "the director of operations for Romney." Yet, you would have us believe Romney has nothing to do with this guy or his actions. In your words, MoJo is trying to "link Romney to something he never had any part of." Get your head outta your [deleted]! It's Romney's campaign and, therefore, his responsibility.

I thought impersonating a police officer was a crime. Has anyone been arrested yet? What do the police think about this? The rule of law in the United States is a notion from a bygone era. Romney, I'm sure, is clueless. Someone should slap him up the side of the head with a police baton.

To bjalder26, who unfortunately managed to get the first word in on this story: What is one-sided about reporting that Romney's director of operations is alleged to have intentionally impersonated a law enforcement officer, in order to benefit the Romney campaign? If there's another side to Romney's director of operations being under investigation, I'd like to hear it. Or are you claiming that he isn't under investigation? Or are you claiming that Jay Garrity has nothing to do with Mitt Romney? Help, the confusion is killing me...
