Is the Onion Smarter Than the Entire Foreign Policy Establishment?

Note the date on this Onion point-counterpoint. The humorists knew what was coming.

After watching all of these debates, I almost bought into the whole "if we knew then what we know now" argument.

Now I see that that's just a silly argument, especially when a "silly" news outlet like the Onion was able to SERIOUSLY call this.

i think we all called it, way back when.

A handful of dems, and even a few repubs were able to see something as plain as the noses on their faces, and actually voted "NO" on the "Give Bush a Bottle of Whiskey & the Car Keys" resolution.
Unfortunately, none of them was high in either party's power structure, and most of the '08 candidates from both parties who COULD vote, voted "YES".
The Greens and the Libertarians would be the parties who could see beforehand where this whole thing was going to land the country. Certainly not the two parties we keep sending back to DC to Keep doing what they've Been doing.

Not the first time theonion scooped reality. Check the date on this one. It's even better and more prophetic, IMHO.

Too bad the "deciders" in our government don't listen to their own experts:

Ha! Great find Misanthropic! It's pretty terrifying when doomsday satire proves prophetic.

Here are a couple of more along similar lines, probably not quite as good as the main post or my earlier one for prescience. In fact, the second one hasn't happened ... yet.

That one will probably only happen after Bush declares martial law next September.

Misanthropic, that one was great! Used to be my argument when Dubya was going in and his followers would talk about 'getting america back on track' - I'd think, 'Yeah, you've living so bad under Clinton.' Funny, funny.
