Bruce, the last line of the BBC article clarifies that these former Soviet men have a minimal Jewish ancestry. They probably were not even raised Jewish, although, when you consider that having even a Jewish grandparent could get you killed under Hitler, the irony is real. I wonder if Isreal should reconsider this 'law of return' thing?

Paul, your points are well taken, but, as you admit, the irony remains intact. We might also mention the persistent rumor that Hitler himself was of Jewish ancestry, although most serious historians now discount this.

Israel promotes NOT a vision of a inclusive "multi-cultural," "multi-ethnic" society (like we do in America) for Israel, but instead a racist exclusionary "Jewish state." That state is openly dedicated to the advancement of the Jewish religion, culture, and even the genetic preservation of the Jewish people. It vigorously opposes intermarriage of Jews with non-Jews(in violation of international human rights). Israel even has a policy of segregated schools, neighborhoods, apartment complexes and even whole towns for Jews and non Jews. Israel values Judaism above other religions. Israel should seek to be welcoming and inclusive and respect all religions, or even those with no religion.
Israel’s xenophobic, racist and ethnocentric values are just too extreme. Israel does not share American inclusive values and let us therefore not share American taxpayer money with them. Israel needs to advance to the 21st century in its values. The days of racism(UN resolution 3378) should be a thing of the past. Israeli society is where America's society was 100 years ago. Israel can do better. Let us have that as our goal to advance Israel to the 21st century in the field of civil and human rights.
