The War as They Saw It
Two of the seven non-commissioned officers who penned a New York Times op-ed that called the war in Iraq the "pursuit of incompatible policies to absurd ends" were killed yesterday when their vehicle turned over on a road near Baghdad. After hearing the news, Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) sent a letter to the President. It reads, in part:
The tragic irony is that before their deaths, these two soldiers were not only trying to give us direction on how to end this war honorably, but they were also calling on us for help.... Mr. President, you didn’t listen to Staff Sergeant Yance Gray and Sergeant Omar Mora while they were alive. I hope that you will listen to them now, as they have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Classy, Barb. Classy.
Oh, kirkbrew, so she shouldn't comment on it? I think that this week was such a concentration of the disparate viewpoints of this desolate effort, it would have been worse to ignore the obvious irony of their deaths than to have clammed up because of offending hypersensative types like yourself. 'Soldiers can die but we can't talk about it.' This seems the connotation of your comment.

The op-ed from these individuals carries considerable more weight than any non-participant post! Senator Boxer was entirely correct in highlighting their views!

As for the “cakewalk” crowd that accused opponents of the war of lacking in patriotism, they never repented of their demagoguery. Despite the pre-invasion propaganda they pumped out about Saddam’s awesome weapons and ties to 9/11, or their assurances that U.S. troops would be welcomed with candy and flowers, like Paris in ‘44, and their prediction that a democracy would arise in Iraq to which Islamic nations would look as a model, they have never been called to account.
Now they are back with a new enemy for America to attack.
This time the target is Tehran – and once again, they have the ear of this most ideological and unreflective of presidents.
As Truman fell to 23 percent after firing Gen. MacArthur, and was drubbed in New Hampshire, and LBJ broken after Tet and dropped out, Bush has seen his support fall from near 90 percent at “Mission Accomplished” to near 30 percent. Approval of his war leadership is virtually nonexistent. God help us all.

Captain, the gods ARE still talking to the 30% of the Bush supporters. The problem is they only need another 20% win the next election. When you've got a WOMAN (!) and one of "those people" (!) running as the opposition party, finding another 20% in this ignorant, macho, racist country won't be all that difficult. Good luck with that glorious Iran battle.

NO, I wasn't JOKING. (Where the F* is the joke, HERE). The Captain, like the rest of his comrades are being treated like serfs; cannon fodder for the imperial ambitions of the dick swinging fascist leader class. Unfortunately, the Captain’s parents DIDN’T tell him that the American Mercenary Army would pay better and you can quit whenever you like. AND, in case the Captain hasn’t noticed, NOBODY outside his family and neighbors give a rats-ass about this war. Which is completely understandable in a country whose overriding philosophy of life is “what’s in it for ME, Jack!” As ANY good Republican Libertarian would tell you, “we’re NOT all in this together”, which is the duplicitous justification for why none of the wealthy Republican’s kids have enlisted. It’s also why Americans don’t have health insurance, btw. “Survival of the fittest”, the white middle-trash will tell you when discussing something that might benefit “those people.
A JOKE. Yeah right. As long as your not getting your ass shot off it is.
And, DOC, if your grasp of reality is THAT limited, I’m glad I’m not one of your patients. And, please, drop the “dr” doc, it’s as impressive any other celebrity title.

My associate Captain Arthur Hastings makes some very subtle points. John, your fiddle faddle twaddle is incoherent. I think that Dr. Webster's diagnosis may be correct. That is all that I have to say.
