HillaryCare, Version 2.0, Gets Positive Reviews
Hillary Clinton's plan for universal health care was just released (you can find an in-depth summary here), and it looks like it gets an A+ from health care expert Jonathan Cohn. The Sick author also likes Obama's and Edwards's plans. Have a look at Cohn's thoughts at TNR.
Ezra Klein is also a fan.

It still leaves corporate profit in way too much control for my taste. However, it is a step in the right direction. I'll vote for her before any of the republican candidates, but in the primary, after all of the democrats. So far, I'm still really liking Kucinich.
It's obvious that Hillary believes the government owns YOUR life.
Big Daddy Gubment sez: 'You WILL buy medical insurance, whether you want it or Not! And you WILL choose from one of these approved packages.'
Of course, Hillary will still get the Congressional Premium Diamond-Studded-Platinum Package, and all at YOUR Expense, and why not?
They OWN your life.
They DETERMINE what is Best for You.
They OWN your money as well.

And, what's worse, I'm paying for the health insurance of all "those people" I don't like.

Dunno, I'd rather have mandatory health insurance than car insurance.
Posted by: Austin on 09/18/07 at 1:57 PM Respond
Austin, I'd rather have neither.
Why is it necessary for Big Daddy Gubment to coerce us into either one, under threat of 'law'?
I guess because FORCE is what government is all about.., Authority and Power..., Power and Authority.
And Hillary is Nothing if She ain't Gubment.

OK, I'm confused by John, Austin, and MissDemeanor.
John, I really hope that amazingly asinine comment is a joke, right?
Austin, may you never be hit by a driver not required to have the car insurance in which you do not believe.
MissDemeaner, Ditto plus, do you honestly believe there are people who want to live in this country without health care?

Scotty, first, there are plenty of people who can afford pay-as-you-go medical care.
What's the point of telling Bill Gates and Ross Perot that they have to buy health insurance? Or Bill Clinton or Al Gore's (if WE weren't already paying for THEIRS...)
Secondly, Why SHOULD the government force us to do anything we aren't inclined to do, so long as we're willing to take whatever risk may be involved, and it's only Our OWN risk?
Can you spell N-A-N-N-Y S-T-A-T-E...?
I Knew Ya' Could!

...and anyway, nothing was ever said about people living "without medical Care".
The point was about being forced by Hillary-Nation to purchase medical INSURANCE.
The old "Love it or Shove it" proposal our National Oligarchy loves so well.
But now that you mention it, I fully believe that there ARE some people who would rather take what comes than trust themselves in the hands of the medical establishment, and it Ought to be their Right to do with their lives as they see fit.
Or WOULD you rather we have Big Daddy Gubment make their decisions FOR them?
Posted by: MissDemeanor on 09/18/07 at 4:52 PM Respond
...and furthermore, who said I didn't believe in car insurance?
Must have been you, cause it certainly wasn't me.
What I don't believe in is "Mandatory".
Authoritarian Statism SUCKS, whether it's Leftist, Centerist, or Rightist.
Authoritarian Statism isn't magically 'benevolent and good' when I like what is being mandated, and 'malevolent and bad' when what I oppose is mandated!
It SUCKS either way.
