Clinton Campaign Alleges Dirty Tricks in Iowa and New Hampshire
The Clinton campaign is alleging that some serious dirty tricks are starting against Senator Clinton in Iowa and New Hampshire. In an email to supporters, campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle gives some details and asks for corroboration. It will be interesting to see where this goes.
Also of note, the Clinton camp implicates the Obama campaign in all this, claiming, "In both Iowa and New Hampshire, we have heard that Obama staffers are berating Hillary supporters on the phone with negative attacks against her." The actual examples included only allege malfeasance by Obama's campaign in Iowa. How will Obama, who is getting better and better at handling stuff like this, respond?
Dear Friend,
I wanted to let you know immediately about reports our campaign has received about possible dirty campaign tactics in Iowa and New Hampshire -- and ask for your help.
In Iowa, we have heard reports that Hillary supporters are getting calls that tell them incorrect caucus locations. Supporters have also told us about push polls -- when they tell the pollster they support Hillary, they are given negative talking points about her and asked which attacks are the most effective.
In both Iowa and New Hampshire, we have heard that Obama staffers are berating Hillary supporters on the phone with negative attacks against her.
Here is one report we got from someone who received a push poll in Iowa:
I do want to let you know, Saturday afternoon, I had a phony pollster call from "an independently owned polling service" ... With my first choice as Hillary and undecided 2nd choice. I was asked if I approved of the direction the country was taking. The question then shifted. "Which of these three options best defines your candidate? 1) Inconsistent on major issues. 2) A weak contender in the general election. 3) Not able to bring change to Washington." I told them I would not answer because it was not a polling question ... I asked where they were calling from. Repeatedly the response was that they were calling from the United States and it was paid for by an independently owned polling firm.
Here is another report from a letter to the editor in an Iowa paper:
The bullying coming from some of the other Democratic candidates is childlike and not what the Democrats stand for. I even had some guy call me from the Obama camp and start bullying me over the phone when I said I supported Hillary. He started arguing and got aggressive on the phone. I did tell him his behavior was not appropriate.
And here is a report from New Hampshire:
When my father informed them that he was supporting Hillary they proceeded to talk to him about her failure to reform health care when she was First Lady. He said it sounded like they were reading something that was already prepared.
These reports are invaluable to our campaign! It is vitally important that we know about any unethical tactics our opponents may use. And as one of our best supporters in Iowa, you are in the best position to keep us informed. If you or any of your family, friends, or neighbors receive negative push poll calls or any misleading information about the election, please contact our Iowa headquarters immediately to let them know. Here is contact information:

Thank you for helping us make sure this election is a fair one, and for everything you do for Hillary.
Sincerely,
Patti Solis Doyle, Campaign Manager, Hillary for President

Comments
The first one, if true, a legit gripe about a push poll.
The second one's a legit gripe about an individual Obama volunteer, and if there's a pattern, who knows.
The third is "campaigns have scripted responses". Shocker.

Should the truth be told about the canditates' failures and accomplishments?
Facts: Obama has achieved everything by his own merit. Sen. Clinton failed the Connecticut Bar exams. Obama knows how poor people live from his previous work as a Community Organizer. Sen. Clinton has visited 82 countries and does not know how poor people live. She only visits how "poor people live" on very rare occassions. The First Lady HRC's Health Care was a total failure. How she now criticizes Obama's Health Care Plan is very disingenuous. Senator Clinton voted for and was the chief cheerleader for the Iraq war because it was politically convenient. Obama was not in the Senate but was bold enough to be "naive and inexperienced" to oppose the Iraq war. We now know the cost of the war in US personnel lives, injuries, Iraqi lives, injuries, monetary cost, anarchy in Iraq, security - the list goes on and on. Senator Clinton says she did not read the Intelligence Assessment before she voted for the war but trusted the President. Remember the words of the elder President (H.W.) Bush, "Trust but verify". Recently Sen. Clinton's vote to designate the Iranian Republican Guard as a terrorist organisation defies reason. President Bush unwavingly believes that he is fighting a war on terror. On the basis of these facts alone, I submit that Obama is very gentle and has not gone out to get Senator Hillary R. Clinton.

Um, that'd be Ronny Raygun.

Just because someone on the phone says they're with Obama doesn't mean it's true - these callers and poll pushers could be anyone, from any political party. They could even be moles working for candidates specifically to sabotage their campaigns.
Trust no one - verification is virtually impossible.

Fake callers and poll pushers? That smells like the familiar tactics of Mark Penn, Hillary's Rove. Trotting out the gutter stuff a bit early, aren't they?
Posted by: rbrooks on 12/04/07 at 7:44 AM Respond
Remember from "Bush's Brain" when Rove planted a bug in his own office to implicate his democratic opponents dirty tricks. when the FBI found that the battery had only been used for fifteen minutes (it took them 20 minutes to drive there), the election was already over.
Penn's timing is off here. He should have waited a bit longer to drop the fake bomb.
Hillary's pretty upset she is losing her "shoe in" rating.

It could also be a Republican pretending to support Obama. This way Obama looks bad and Clinton looks bad, too.

-----------------
Experience
-----------------
Have you noticed that the most highly regarded presidents, irrespective of what was going on, were also the great charismatic communicators to the people as well. They were not highly regarded because they were experts in the arcane machinations of the executive branch. If that experience was a good pre-indicator then name one great modern president that was a vice-president first.
--------------------------------
The Great Communicators
--------------------------------
1) Lincoln
2) Reagan
3) FDR
4) JFK
5) Bill Clinton
* order debatable
All were lacking in the Washington Experience when inaugurated .
note: Obama's and Lincoln's resumes are almost identical.
I'm still trying to figure out exactly what Hillary's unmatched Experience is besides fighting opponents to not get indicted and of course her 20 years of 1stLadyships.
