Responding to MoJo, Huckabee Campaign Explains Difference Between Homosexuality and Necrophilia
It's hard to explain lumping together homosexuality and necrophilia. But that's the mission that Mike Huckabee's campaign research director, Joe Carter, took on when Talking Points Memo asked him about the recent Mother Jones story on a book Huckabee wrote in 1998. In that book, Huckabee decried American culture, equated environmentalism with pornography, insisted that people who do not believe in God tend to be immoral, and associated homosexuality with necrophilia:
It is now difficult to keep track of the vast array of publicly endorsed and institutionally supported aberrations—from homosexuality and pedophilia to sadomasochism and necrophilia.
Now lets turn to TPM:
When we asked Carter if Huckabee stood by this quote, he didn't disavow the comment. But he sought to clarify its meaning, denying our suggestion that the quote equated homosexuality and necrophilia.
"He's not equating homosexuality with necrophilia," Carter told us. "He's saying there's a range of aberrant behavior. He considers homosexuality aberrant, but that's at one end of the spectrum. Necrophilia is at the other end."
Carter added: "No way is he saying that homosexuality is like having sex with dead people. That's not it at all."
Asked how one measured what rated where on this spectrum of aberrant behavior, Carter said: "He was talking about aberrant sexual behavior. Sado masochism and necrophilia are on the further end of the spectrum."
Asked if this meant that Huckabee at least saw homosexuality and necrophilia as belonging to the same behavioral category, Carter said:
"That's like saying any sex is the same. Yes, he considers both aberrant, but no, he does not equate the two in any way."
Asked to elaborate further, Carter said: "He was describing behavior. He's not casting judgment on the people themselves. His point is, the culture is becoming more accepting of aberrant behaviors."
Carter probably never expected that his stint with Huckabee would require that he spin about necrophilia and homosexuality. But he did clear up this pressing matter: Huckabee believes homosexuality is awful, but not as awful as having sex with dead people. By the way, where in the United States is necrophilia accepted? If Huckabee has found communities where sex with corpses is truly "publicly endorsed and institutionally supported," he's traveling in some rather odd neighborhoods. Does Mrs. Huckabee know about this?

Huckabee's claim that religious believers are more moral than unbeleivers rests on nothing more than his ignorance. Studies have shown that atheists have lower rates of criminality and higher rates of educational, scientific and professional attainment than religious people, and the least religious countries are the most just, generous and peaceful. One should never mistake anything Huckster says for the truth; it's ironic that his son, who tormented a dog to death and tried to smuggle a loaded pistol onto airliner is a potent refutation of his imbecilic hypothesis. One could look to the likes of Haggard, Vitter, Craig, Allen and thousands of Catholic priests for further disconfirmation.

The arrogance to assume that he and his are somehow more moral than the common man or proletariat if you prefer, considering the track record of the family values crowd, is mind boggling, you are correct.

David,
Any reasonable person realizes that Huckabee is pointing out that the perverted practice of homosexuality has no place being accepted in any community.
I tend to agree.
It's perversion...pure, simple. And somehow...some way...our society has allowed this perverted behavior to be accepted in society.
God help us!

Well, I can imagine having sex with Laura Bush could be like necrophilia. Maybe Huckleberry thinks W is immoral.

Whats so strange, all politicians think like that; it's just that joe public cant bring themselves to believe it.

If I believed that necrophilia was "institutionally supported" I'd probably vote for Huckabee too.

DC,

I wonder where hookers, diapers, wide stance, and sex with teenagers land on his "morality" scale?
So much Christian spirit, can you feel the love.

The huckster is against sex with dead people but he doesn't mind if he gets the votes of dead people.

David, you need to get out more, at night, if you dare. There is an underground, where things go on that decent people would not embrace. The "undead" are into this necrophilia practice. The "undead" are sometimes referred to as the "Devil's people."

Oh good grief, here we go again, with yet another Republican candidate backpeddling on prior outrageous statements, apologizing yet not truly moderating the thought process that caused the bigoted and extreme comments intially. This "new Christianity" is what's aberrant. There is little difference between those who pervert Islam and the Koran to suit their distorted agenda and those who have twisted the Bible and Christian ideals to suit theirs. How about a little "live and let live" and "Love Thy Neighbor"? Get a grip folks, we have far greater problems in this world than who is having sex with who!

To Al-Ozarka;
I refuse to believe in an omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent god who is so caught up in where and in what my penis is. Why does he mind? If homosexuality is a perversion, than so is non-procreative sex.

Any reasonable person knows that walking around with your head up your ass is a perversion, but you seem to have no difficulty with that one.

Hey Al-Ozarka,
It must be hard being a biggot. Maybe its a reaction-formation. I think you should look into it...
