To jump on Fred Thompson for getting the syllable stresses wrong on Pervez Musharraf's name misses the point. There are serious reasons to think that Thompson is a dangerous idiot, and commenting in this minor slip draws attention away from the more serious reasons. It makes his critics look petty.

Thompson has very little appeal. He will neither get the Republican nomination, nor even come close. He is no Ronald Reagan. He is a bore quite frankly. Those who suggested he would be the "great savior" of the Republican Party were sadly incorrect.

Actually, the correct pronunciation -- the way it is pronounced in Pakistan -- is "moo-SHAR-RUHF" ("SHAR-RAHF" is close to the English "sheriff"). "Moo-SHURR-RUHF" is the American version. The British (BBC) pronounce it correctly.
