Obama's New Hampshire Ads — Preview of National Race? Cause for Concern?
These Obama ads currently running in New Hampshire are obviously designed to pick up independent voters. If Obama wins the nomination, is this what we're going to see eight months of?
Obama highlights his independence and his ability to unify the country. Fair enough; he's trying to win in a state with lots of independents. (The main competitor for those votes, as odd as it sounds, appears to be John McCain; independents in New Hampshire can vote in either primary.)
I'm getting worried; should we be concerned about Obama's allegiance to progressive beliefs? Would a President Obama compromise on key issues in order to make it look like he is "bringing the country together"? And let's say at some point in his term(s) he faces stiff Republican opposition in Congress that doesn't share his passion for bipartisanship. Will he move to the center or to the right just to keep Washington from getting mired in gridlock?

Obama will present as an independent without ties to the ruling elites, Corporate and Special Interest Groups, and bring this Country to the ideal, or close to it, of Gospel justice, righteousness to all peoples of the USA Until now, lip service only has been paid to the founding ideals of America...Words, just words, poseurs, with no action...Equality of all, justice to the oppressed, equality of education for all, aid and support for our aged, injured workers, and to all poor people...In a land like ours, it is not justice for the few to have so much, and the greater number have so much less , and/or nothing at all...

Healthcare Crisis in Politics
CEO and founder of RxPop.com says, “U.S. citizens are offered a health care system that is not only disgustfully inadequate and inefficient, but a complete and total moral ignominy. If the U.S. cannot adopt a more economical and stabilized health care system, citizens should be able to turn to Canada for help. Denying them this right could cost them their lives and that is unacceptable!”
Over 46.6 million Americans are uninsured, with 15.9 percent of Americans lacking health coverage.
Census data show that 46.6 million Americans were uninsured in 2005, an increase of 1.3 million from the number of uninsured in 2004 (45.3 million). The percentage who are uninsured rose from 15.6 percent in 2004 to 15.9 percent in 2005. The number of children who are uninsured rose from 7.9 million in 2004 to 8.3 million in 2005.
My fellow Americans, wake up! It’s time for drastic change in U.S. Health Care Policy.

Just another feel good moment from Oprah!
I have watched/listened/read carefully about this guy....
first of all, anyone MSM is falling all over about is subject to my distrust!
Obama loves corporate America, Wall Street is his favorite funder! He spent more money in Iowa than any of his opponents...
Americans are just wanting someone to make them feel good, and unwilling to face up to having supported crimes against peace, war crimes, destruction of their own constitution and the total failure of this country to enforce laws or take responsibility for imperial decadence... so along comes Harpo productions to put a black face on a mainstream corporate democrat who is conciliatory, reflective, and compromising (ie another effete intellectual unwilling/unable to truly take a principled stance)
Where was Obama on Iraq before he was presidential candidate? Did he join Sen Dodd in the clear outrage of corporate clemacy for spying on American citizens (before 9/11)?
What has he ever taken a truly tough stand on?
I am fond of the saying... if you aren't enraged about the current state of affairs, you aren't paying any attention...
and Obama is just another corporate collaborator leading America to its own demise!
Posted by: Bob W on 01/06/08 at 8:33 AM Respond
I'm so confused! Why did Obama lead in Iowa when he has no background of accmomplishing anything of substance. I mean, you can't even learn about the guy's legislative record on his own web site!!
I know people are looking for that "something new" that will reshape politics, but let's get real. Every candidate, including Bush (as Clinton pointed out last night), talks about change. Don't we Americans want and deserve someone who can reduce the deficit to ensure our economy is strong, create a tax policy that invites corporate investment but doesn't burden the middle class, and is realistic in dealings with adverserial governments?
I'm supporting Clinton -- she clearly has the intellectual depth and command of the issues that the other candidates lack. I really hope people will use their own intellects to guide their decisions about the candidate they'll support. If they do, Clinton should come up on top. She has shaped important policies, including through bipartisan efforts, and won nearly 70% of the vote in her second bid as NY senator despite considerable skeptism among New Yorkers during her first election bid. Frankly, I don't see how anyone who has watched the debates can possibly think she isn't the candidate to beat.

Most of the mass of people that come to hear Barack Obama speak see beyond Barack's color as his Soul shines forth (that shaft of light) penetrating and speaking to our hearts, to the best in each of us.
The change Barack is inspiring us to make is in establishing and building a "People Coalition", which in turn will be the catalyst for the emerging of a new era in American history, an era of unity and not division, which can tap that awesome seed to put power back into the people's hands, where it belongs. For only the people, as a group untiy, can truly know what is in their best interest and make the changes, that is the only way true change can be made. Barack Obama, is asking us to forget our petty differences and false prejudices, as change, though attempted, cannot be made if there is not unity and a solid majority. It is impossible to implement change with bickering and divsion.
We in the United States know innately that United we stand and Divided we Fall. Barack asks us to unite in a Common Cause to face and defeat the Herculean Problems facing us today. This is our time, this is our calling!

In 2012, the Democratic Party will be split in two when Barack gets challenged from the left in a nasty primary. People who care about issues are going to rebel.
Posted by: Liberal Larry on 01/06/08 at 6:24 PM Respond
Yes, I do see a rebellion-of the racist left. Seriously, why do people want to be spoon fed, why don't people look up his record themselves (instread of waiting for the media to do it) or read transcrips of all the cannidates talks (instead of small bites from the media and their framing). My grand dad always says the people get the leader they deserve, that's 1/3rd of Obama's talk is making the people get off their lazy Jamie lynn following butts and doing their own research. It's not hard. Then decide for your self.

Who is "the racist left"? Do they have a Web site?

People come on. Let’s shift our paradigm. This is not about progressive or conservative, left, right or red, blue and white. This is about solutions to large problems. What I am hoping will occur, is that we will all step outside of our egos and look to maintain the greatness of this country in the next millennium. How do we do this?
1. Insist on more transparency in government spending to eliminate waste and corruption, demand financial accountability, stop this play for pay politics and demand true patriotism from us all.
2. Rebuild our economic infrastructure: cut spending on useless earmarks and in places that will be painful.
3. Invest in our future to invigorate productivity. Invest more in research and development, education, and infrastructure to stimulate the growth that we need to support a robust fiscal recovery.
4. Create new industries based on the demands that we are now facing in energy, global warming, and health.
We all have to get on this boat and bring all ideas to the table regardless of what camp we are in. We are a great country and we need to start acting like it.
This country will not be a good place for any of us to live in unless we make it a good place for all of us to live in. ~Theodore Roosevelt

The man was not born from the center of a lotus in Boston Harbor in 2004! Read the book Obama: from Promise to Power if you want to learn more about this undeniably ambitious man who will indeed comporomise if he feels it will accomplish a broader aim. I'm personally ready for that! I'm an Obama Mama because: He is logical. He knows the Constitution inside out and believes in it and in upholding it. He is a citizen of the world in a way no other presidential ever has been. Simply electing him will change the way the world sees us. I am confident that his coniderable intelligence will serve him in any situation he finds himself in. And I have felt, in a room of supporters, the incredible healing power of a viable black candidate for president. Go Obama!

When people are going to vote for someone who's main axe is an emotional plea for "hope" you know that things are really bad.
Bush has brought this desparation on the country.
However, the naivete of the supporters of Obama - "We are a great country", "there is no right or left" should get a nice cold shower if he's elected.
You'll see this country is run by other people, and they are not you. Every corporate interest in the country will be swaying Mr. Obama, while you the people have finished your job as voting cattle.
His 'health care' plan and his 'environmental' plan already have the earmarks of serving corporations.

Bob W, if you left the Oprah slam off your comment, I'd have sworn you were talking about Reagan. I don't trust Obama or any politician. Politics corrupts everything it touches.

Look at Obama's compulsive mentions of "Ethanol" in Iowa. Good politics, bad environmentalism. Gainers for ethanol from corn? Big agribusiness and some medium farmers...not the environment or the consumer.
Farm bill just passed continued Business As Usual - corporate agriculture won, with big subsidies to ethanol. Environmental bill accented ethanol, not wind or solar or even electric cars. Business as Usual. Both supported by Mr. Obama, I think.
You want 'brave now world?' not going to get it with this guy.

Nic: Your response to Lyn was hilarious!
I think Obama would be more palatable to the majority of voters than Clinton. There is a visceral hatred for the woman that is actually frightening. In her defense I see no reason for anyone to hate anyone to that extent. You should save that kind of emotion for say, Bush, Cheney, Wolfowitz, et. al

ElyDog: You hit the nail on the head with most of your points.
I'm not anywhere near ready to vote for Clinton or Obama. The only way either, at this point, would get my vote would be if they ran against ANY Republican. We have to send a message that we, the people, are fed up and not going to just throw our hands up and walk away. That's what the Republicans want. They benefit from low voter turn outs. It's also why Bush is so low profile now. He can't risk reminding us of why we should stand up against what's happening in Washington.
Posted by: Vici on 01/07/08 at 1:13 PM Respond
Thank you Vici.
I needed that reminder. The Dems are feeling overly confident and dismissing the Right as if they no longer exists.
All I can think of now is the match-ups. I strongly believe McCain will be the Republican Nominee.
McCain - Obama
McCain is a war decorated hero with a lot of experience and a tough stance. He will be able to paint Obama as week on defense and make a lot of hay out of his misteps so far and his inexperience.
McCain - Clinton
McCain can only play up Hillary hating. What can he do point to her and say "she voted for the resolution to go to war and she is weak on security?"
I think Hillary is a much stonger bet against McCain.
And as someone pointed out earlier, Obama has not proven he is a progressive.
Matter of fact, I was very turned off with his suggestion he could see Schwatznegger (sp) in his cabinet.
I am all for unity but not renting a room in my house to the enemy.
Hillary was bashed (like everything else) when she pointed out that Obama is naive.
Naive is not exactly an insult. It describes someone who does not have the experience to anticipate a future based on lessons learned from a past.
And here, I do believe Obama may be naive. That is not a bash. It is an expected condition for someone with his level of experience for the job.
Whe I applied for my first job after graduating, I was naive. I think I stayed that way for the first year or so. My job is very complicated and requires multi-tasking crucial deadlines. If I miss a dealine, it could cost someone dearly.
I was not put in charge of the department when I started. I worked along someone for a while until I learned the characters and, more importantly, learned how to avoid mistakes. My job tittle literally states that as my first responsibility.
Maybe that is why I am having a hard time going with hope. I think it is a gamble at a time our country needs a steady hand.
And I'm not for change. I'm for restoration.
Bush changed everything already! We need someone to return our consitution to it's rightful place. We need someone who knows that a SC judge is chosen not only because he agrees with you, but because he will disagree with you too.

Viki:
Can I bounce an idea around with you? Sorry I don't get much intellectual stimulation at my end other than when I talk to other Dems.
Not sure how old most of you are, but if you are as ancient as I am, you end up remembering things that happened 20 years ago better than what you had for lunch today.
I remember when I first heard of Hillary. It was Newt Gringrich. This was before the election.
They started the campaign on Hillary during Clinton's first primary. One thing after the other. Whe she didn't break down and divorce Bill with their liteny of lovers all over the place, they turned up the heat.
Hillary says "I'm not the stay at home baking cookies" type of woman, as a response as to how she handled the rumors and scrutiny of infidelity by Bill. Which is precisely what I would try and do in the face of humiliation! A brave front!
This turned into Hillary hates stay at home Moms. And it just snowballed from there.
And this whole business about how she couldn't get healthcare reform done?
Jimminy! Any of you watch that unfold? Pretty much the same as it is being played out today. Only it was the Republicans then and not Obama and his camp doing the damage.
Boy were some of my lady friends angry! The charge was that Hillary was wearing the pants at the White House. Who's running the government Bill or Hillary?
Who doesn't remember that?
There was no way in hell Hillary could bill concensus as the Right went on a full out campaign to stop what they called LISTEN UP HERE "Universal Care"
That bitch! And they said that literally.
This wasn't because they were concerned for our country. They were building the coalition that would eventually bring GW to the WH.
And when I hear Obama say that Hillary was "Bush Lite," I lost respect for the man.
By the by, Hillary and Edwards' healthcare plan are first steps to Universal Care. According to Krugman, Obama's Healthcare plan would not because it did not force the government to participate (that's my gray head interpretaton I'm sure some whipersnapper will correct me on a verb that will change the entire meaning. Been done before. What can you do?)
The least he could do is be gracious to a woman who has herself served our country well.
You may not like her. But I challenge you to read her biography and tell me she is not worthy of admiration.
Only in this sick and twisted media circus of a country that we have today can others stand idly by while a woman, whom we should all be so proud of as an example of a strong and patriotic American, is kicked for political gain.
I have been undecided off and on. I first saw Edwards and I liked the man. I then saw Obama and heard Edwards speech come through his mouth (not a bash, a honest observation) and then I saw the rest.
But at this point, if it is between Obama and Hillary, I would have to vote for Hillary.
I'm voting for result, not hope.
I'm voting for getting America back on track, not further damaging it with possible unintended mistakes. We need someone who knows where things go and not be mislead by hidden agendas they may not anticipate. Politics is a serious chess game.
