After Her Big Win, Status Quo or Change at Clinton HQ?
Last night--that is, at 1:30 in the morning--I ran into a top Hillary Clinton adviser at the bar in the Radisson Hotel in Manchester, New Hampshire. She was beaming. Earlier in the day, she had said to me, "I'm just praying the spread is 9.9 percent"--meaning she was hoping that Barack Obama would not win by double digits. Well, that was then. Joking, I said that I could imagine Clinton sending Mark Penn, her chief strategist, a telegram that said, "Stop. Come back. Stop. All is forgiven. Stop." Her eye opened wide and she exclaimed, "Oh, I hope not." Clinton's narrow victory in New Hampshire, she said, was not a vindication, but a warning. "We still need to retool," she explained. "This is not over." Clinton would have to change plenty from here on: be more open to the media, not be so over-handled. New Hampshire, she added, had been a near-death experience for Hillary Clinton. "We need to learn from our mistakes," she said. This aide was hoping for big changes within the Clinton campaign. Will that come? I asked. "You never know, politics can be unpredictable," she said with a smile.

DC,
Seems like the only thing HRC actually beat in NH was some poor quality polls?
If the polls are wrong they are wrong. I hear a bunch of blather (news shows etc.) about how HRC has made some kind of "come-back" but from what?
Iowa was close and NH was close. The punditry loves a neck and neck horse race and that is far closer to the truth than portraying one candidate as coming back.
Thanks
(1) Why did Hillary win if she and Barack Obama each won nine delegates in New Hampshire's Democratic primary?
Our fucked up system doesn't give a shit about the popular vote in either the primaries or the GC, so stop touting that crap like it matters.
(2) Why doesn't anyone care that Obama got 38.7% of the hand counted votes to Clinton's 36.2%, but Diebold machines gave Clinton 40.7% of the vote against Obama's 36.2%?
81% of New Hampshire ballots were tallied on the same machine that the ethical hacker Harri Hursti cracked in Florida. The ballots were counted in secrecy by Diebold Election Systems, which was recently renamed Premier.
Why is everyone so wound up in if it's gonna be Tweedle-de or Tweedle-dumber WHEN THE FOUNDATION OF OUR DEMOCRACY IS CRACKING?
Or don't Florida in 2000 and Ohio in 2004 mean anything to you?

Thank you T.P. for the reminder re: the good ol' electoral votes (which seem to have become conveniently ignored by the media). But then electoral votes are not much fun to talk about, and God forbid the reader/viewer lose interest.

I'm not clear: is Penn gone, or thought to be going, speculated to be going? I'll warm up to Hillary a bit is she dumps that professional union buster.

1) She "won" in NW because Barac "won" in Iowa. If you want to count delegates, then Barack has just two delegate more than her in Iowa. Not the landslide everyone was cheering about
2)If a Clinton supporter said that in Iowa, you would call them a sore loser...

Hillarys out of state supporters get the news on how to make her a winner in NH
WHO CAN REGISTER http://www.sos.nh.gov/vote.htm
New Hampshire residents who will be 18 years of age or
older on election day, and a United States Citizen,
may register with the town or city clerk where they
live up to 10 days before any election. You may also
register on election day at the polling place. The
town clerk's office can inform voters of what proof of
qualification they should bring to register.
There is no minimum period of time you are required to
have lived in the state before being allowed to
register. You may register as soon as you move into
your new community.
HOW TO REGISTER
1) Apply to your town or city clerk's office. You
will be required to fill out a standard voter
registration form and will be required to show proof
of age, citizenship and domicile.
2) It may be easier for you to register with your
community's Supervisors of the Checklist. By law they
are required to meet on the Saturday 10 days prior to
each election. Check the local newspaper(s) or call
your clerk's office for the date and time of such
meeting.
3) Qualified individuals may also register to vote at
the polling place on election day at all elections.
You will be asked to show proof of age, citizenship,
and domicile.
ABSENTEE REGISTRATION
If you meet the state's voter requirements and
qualifications and are unable to register in person
because of physical disability, religious beliefs,
military service, or because of temporary absence, you
may register by mail. You should request an absentee
voter registration affidavit and a standard voter
registration form from your town/city clerk. The
absentee voter registration affidavit must be
witnessed and then both the affidavit and the voter
registration form are to be returned to your town/city
clerk.
COLLEGE STUDENTS
If you are a student attending college in New
Hampshire, please click here for additional
information.
OVERSEAS CITIZENS
Any person who is domiciled outside the United States
has the right to register and vote absentee in any
federal election (President, United States Senator,
United States Representative) in the town or city in
New Hampshire in which they had their domicile
immediately prior to their departure from the United
States, even though the person no longer maintains a
domicile in said city or town and even though their
intent to return is uncertain.
ARMED SERVICES
An armed service voter may apply for an absentee
ballot from the town/city clerk of the town in which
he/she was domiciled immediately prior to entering the
service. Armed service voters are eligible to vote
for all offices.
ABSENTEE BALLOTS- Requests for
Absentee ballots are available from your town or city
clerk approximately 30 days prior to an election.
Request the absentee ballot application from the clerk
or you may download the application; or, if you wish,
you may submit a request in writing which should
include all the information that is required on the
application. Don't forget your name, voting address,
mailing address and your signature.
An application for an absentee ballot may be
transmitted by facsimile to a town or city clerk
ABSENTEE BALLOTS- Return of
Clerks may accept completed absentee ballots submitted
in person until 5:00 p.m. the day before an election
or until 5:00 p.m. on election day if received through
the mail.
An absentee ballot may NOT be transmitted by facsimile
to a town or city clerk
POLITICAL PARTIES
When registering to vote, you will not be required to
register as a member of a political party (republican
or democratic) -- you may register as an undeclared
voter. If you are registered as an undeclared voter
and go to vote in a state primary election, you will
be required to choose a party when accepting a ballot.
Voters should be aware of their party status before a
primary election. If you voted on a party ballot in
the 2006 state primary, you are now a registered
member of that party unless you filled out a card to
return to undeclared status with the supervisors of
the checklist.
If you are unsure of your party affiliation, you
should contact your town or city clerk, as they have
the records of party membership. Or, if you are a
party member and wish to change your registration
status, initiate such a change by taking one of the
following steps:
Presidential Primary
1) Meet with the Supervisors of the Checklist no later
than the day prior to the filing period for the
Presidential Primary (October 12, 2007). This is the
last day you can change your party affiliation before
the Presidential Primary.
2) If you are a registered member of a party, you
may change your registration at any primary, however,
you will not be allowed to vote in that primary.
Undeclared voters may declare a party and vote at any
primary. The law allows an undeclared voter to
declare a party at the polls, vote the ballot of that
party, and then change their party affiliation back to
undeclared simply by completing the form available
from the Supervisors of the Checklist at the polling
place.
State Primary
1) Meet with the Supervisors of the Checklist no
later than June 3, 2008 -- the last day to change your
political party before the state primary election, or
register the change with your town or city clerk by
that date. This is the last day to register to vote
if you wish to file as a candidate for the state
primary election.
2) If you are a registered member of a party, you
may change your registration at any primary, however,
you will not be allowed to vote in that primary.
Undeclared voters may declare a party and vote at any
primary. The law allows an undeclared voter to
declare a party at the polls, vote the ballot of that
party, and then change their party affiliation back to
undeclared simply by completing the form available

place.

Hi everybody, I'll try to be brief...I am a Hillary fan and I will always be a fan of hers because I am among the many people she has helped at my deepest point of need. She is truly a good, reliable, and down to earth person. When things looked really bad for her...everyone was talking really mean about her and judging her so harshly. Even the women. I was totally devastated because I know what it's like to mistreated. She is a very strong woman. I would have bailed if I were in her position... because I could see her pain. The pain she tried so hard to hide. No one like to be belittled I literally felt her heartbeat. I was so sad for her that I turned off the radio, tv, computer, and all outside information about politics. My pain was unbearable. I could feel her every emotion. I don't know who should win. I want her to win because I know and... (somehow).. feel her passion and desire to get busy solving America's problems. I believe that she will sacrifice her life for this country. I admire her courage. The only way I was able to get relief from feeling her pain was by turning to God. I said God I want her to be president but I am a flip flopper, I have trouble sometimes making right decisions. I said to God...I cannot think about this anymore. Please make the decision for me. You know best (Your Will done.) That was at 5pm central time on primary day I literally wiped the thought from my mind. I believe that God is incapable of making mistakes. I trust God completely. So... I said: not my will, but...Please let your will be done in New Hampshire. I know this sounds a bit out there but as God is my judge...that is what happened. You say you do not understand what happened...Is it possible that God's will...which is greater than any other....was done. Just food for thought. Nothing like this has ever happened to me before. This does not mean that Hillary will go on to win the white house...What this means to me is that I turned my choice (as a voter) over to God and He met me at my deepest need. He answered my petition and fortunately .... His decision (this time) happened to be in my favor Just a little food for thought.

1-9-08: New England voting machine firm has executive
criminal record
They program every single voting machine in New
Hampshire, Connecticut, almost all of Massachusetts,
Vermont, and Maine. But did state officials in five
New England states ever do a criminal background check
on this company's executives? Do the laws of these
five states even ALLOW them to hire convicted
criminals for services paid for by the state? What
about over 500 local towns and municipalities?
According to my sources, LHS Marketing and Sales
Director Ken Hajjar grew up with owner John Silvestro
in Lawrence, Massachusetts. They both moved to
Londonderry, New Hampshire, where Ken Hajjar was
arrested, indicted, and pleaded guilty to "sale / CND"
and sentenced to 12 months in the Rockingham County
Correctional facility, and fined $2000. As things go
for the politically connected, he was then given a
deferred sentence and $1000 of his fine was suspended.
[]
Hajjar doesn't limit his involvement in the voting
machine business to sales. According to an interview
conducted by Brad Friedman, Hajjar totes memory cards
around in the trunk of his car and defends the
boggling concept of swapping out memory cards during
the middle of elections.
Hold onto your hats, there's more. Start with this
YouTube video, if you haven't already seen it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PiiaBqwqkXs
Then read this BradBlog story:
http://www.bradblog.com/?p=5320
quote:(excerpt)
Other LHS staff members we spoke with, including Mike
Carlson and Tom Burge, provided similar comments. They
said they would open machines up during an election
and swap memory cards as needed. This is illegal under
Connecticut law and Deputy Secretary Mara told us she
has since informed LHS that such actions were in
violation of Connecticut election laws.
In 2006, as Hajjar argued in favor of their policy to
change cards during elections, I asked him about about
the laws which govern chain of custody issues. His
response: "I mean, I don't pay attention to every
little law. It's just, it's up to the Registrars. All
we are is a support organization on Election Day".
He said he had three memory cards in the trunk of his
car and, in the event they had to be used, the chain
of custody issues wouldn't matter since, "once you run
the [pre-election] test deck through, you're golden".
Black Box Voting has sent out 10 freedom of
information requests, called "right to know requests"
in New Hampshire, and public records requests
elsewhere.
Hajjar's conviction was in 1987, but we have asked
also for complaints filed on a threat allegedly made
in recent years to a New Hampshire woman, and any
other reports for Hajjar or LHS owner John Silvestro.
Until recently, LHS employees were listed on the
company Web site. Now the pages identifying who
programs New England voting machines have been taken
down.
We want to know.
We want to know exactly what the secretaries of
state/commonwealth know about LHS Associates.
Did they know of Hajjar's criminal background? If so,
why's he toting voting machine cards around in the
trunk of his car in case they are "needed" in live
elections, and if not, why not?

VOTING MACHINES - SKILLFULLY MANIPULATED - LEAVE NO
EVIDENCE
The famous "Hursti Hack" of the memory card in the

the card with minus and plus votes, passed the "zero
test" at the beginning of the day, and after 6 no and
2 yes votes we... More

UPDATE JAN 9 9am PST: TOWN OF SUTTON CONFIRMS RON PAUL
TOTALS WERE 31, NOT ZERO.
I just got off the phone with Jennifer Call, Town
Clerk for Sutton. She confirmed that the Ron Paul
totals in Sutton were actually 31, and said that they
were "left off the tally sheet" and it was human
error.
This is not an acceptable answer, especially because
one of the most common forms of fraud in a hand count
system is to alter or omit results on the reporting
sheet. Hand count is lovely, transparent. They then
fill out another reconciliation sheet, often in front
of witnesses, and it looks fine. Then they provide a
summary or media sheet with the incorrect results.
A Web site here: http://www.wheresthepaper.org has
more on fraud techniques with hand counted paper
ballots. You'll have to dig for it -- or Google, and
the excellent research on this is Theresa Hommel from
the state of New York.

Comma delimited database: NH municipalities hand count
vs use Diebold machines:
http://www.bbvdocs.org/NH/state/Jan-08-votingsystems-NH.txt
ORIGINAL ARTICLE
John Silvestro and his small private business, LHS
Associates, has the exclusive programming contracts
for all New Hampshire voting machines, which combined
will count about 81 percent of the vote tomorrow.
Silvestro IS the New Hampshire chain of custody
Or at least a very large component in it.
Last fall, with the help of some New Hampshire
citizens, Black Box Voting began working on a "New
Hampshire Chain of Custody" project, in which we
identified some of the areas of concern that might
affect many jurisdictions at once. First on the list
is LHS Associates, a vendor with inside access to
every memory card in New Hampshire, as well as to the
chips containing the "brain" of the Diebold optical
scan machines.
LHS Associates programs all the memory cards in New
Hampshire and Connecticut; about all of Vermont's
voting machines, and has a lock on almost all of
Massachusetts as well.
RARE VIDEO FOOTAGE
In an unusual confluence of available video, we
obtained footage of Silvestro grappling with Harri
Hursti, the master hacker who had his way with the
Diebold optical scans in Leon County, Florida in the
famous exploit that was showcased in the film Hacking
Democracy.
The exact same make, model and version hacked in the
Black Box Voting project in Leon County is used
throughout New Hampshire, where about 45 percent of
elections administrators hand count paper ballots at
the polling place, with the remaining locations all
using the Diebold version 1.94w optical scan machine.
Because the voting machine locations tend to be urban,
this represents about 81 percent of the New Hampshire
voters.
The video shows Harri Hursti testifying on Sept. 19
before the New Hampshire legislature, attempting to
explain significant vulnerabilities requiring urgent
mitigations; throughout his testimony, Silvestro
inserted his own comments, opinions, misstatements and
speculations.
VOTING MACHINE CHECKUP
One area of disagreement between Hursti and Silvestro
was the amount of expertise needed to exploit the
Diebold 1.94w optical scan system. Silvestro claimed
(in a strange contortion of reasoning) that he doesn't
hire very skilled programmers, implying that this
makes New Hampshire elections more secure.
Hursti pointed out that hiring programmers with a lack
of knowledge is generally not considered a security
feature, and also that an average high schooler can
learn to exploit the... More
