GOP: McCain is Chilling, But We'll Vote For Him
Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran (R) speaking about John McCain on January 27:
"The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine," Cochran said about McCain by phone. "He is erratic. He is hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me."
Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran (R) endorsing John McCain on February 8:
"I am supporting John McCain for the Republican nomination for president," Cochran, R-Miss., said in a statement released Thursday.
Mad props to Steve Benen, for catching this and other examples of GOP bandwagoning. We'll see if McCain can win over these folks.

Of course, he's going to support him. The Repubs will fight to retain power in the W.H.

15 or so years ago, while living in Arizona, a tabloid about McCain when he was a prisoner was distributed. It contained letters from 25 or 30 ex-prisoners of war who had been held in the Hanoi Hilton with John McCain. They all stated that McCain received preferential treatment while a prisoner.
Recently, during McCain’s primary run one of the men he was in prison with said the charges were not true. I wonder what the others have to say on the subject.
Do I believe those prisoners who accused him, or believe McCain and the single prisoner who claims the others were lying? I’m not sure.
I keep looking for that tabloid. I’ve got it stashed somewhere. When I find it all will go on-line.

The NVA knew McCains dad (and grandfather) were high ups in the Navy - he was treated differently by them by their choice.
I am no McCain supporter - I would not vote for him but it is my understanding he turned down an offer to be sent home in consideration of his family name.
So, he was treated differently (I don't know if that was worse or better) but because he had no control over his captors it is hard to blame it on him.

He gives me the creeps too!!! 10,000 more years in Iraq? Forget it...
I saw a trailer for this movie www.bluestatemovie.com about this guy that bails to Canada after the 2004 election... Another 4 years of GOP in the office, I think I'll follow suit!

["They all stated that McCain received preferential treatment while a prisoner."]
I'm not in the least surprised.
McCain was a pilot.
Every military in the world places exceptionally high value on trained pilots, and any enemy military is going to be acutely aware of this fact, therefore they take pains to keep pilots in relatively good shape, as they make better bargaining chips than dime-a-dozen (as the GENERALS seem to see it) grunts & ground-pounders.
My father-in-law was a fighter pilot in WWII and Korea, shot down on a mission over North Korea while covering the retreat of his squadron.
He said he was treated relatively well during his 18 mos. as P.O.W., where others fared much worse.
He's positive it was due to his status as a pilot, and he WAS among the first lot of prisoners to be exchanged.
