Secretary of State 2008?
From Salon:
Getting through these dark times
Foreign policy whiz Samantha Power sheds light on a legendary diplomat killed in Iraq, advising Barack Obama and how America can emerge from the Bush era.
Having won the Pulitzer in 2003 for A Problem from Hell: America and the Age of Genocide" she's pub'ing her new book "Chasing the Flame: Sergio Vieira de Mello and the Fight to Save the World." It's about the UN envoy and great hope for peace in the Middle East who was killed in a terrorist bombing early in our occupation of Iraq.
She's a good friend, maybe because she's one of the only people I know who is both destined for greatness and just plain cool as hell. Latest proof: she works for Obama. My hat, as always, is off to her.
Comments
She sounds like a good candidate to me. She has first hand experience and that is always best. But I don't really know if a woman candidate for Secretary of State would work well in the Middle East because they don't respect women. The last two female Secretary of State's didn't accomplish what they wanted. Frankly speaking, I would prefer Colin Powell for that position.
Um I don't know but, isn't that sort of premature? I mean, wouldn't Obama have to actually "win" a presidential election? I mean, after he'd actually won the Democrat "nomination?" I mean, it's a darn long road until November 2008 and Ms. Clinton is on the warpath and gosh, it isn't like Clinton is above silly little conundrums like assassinating a rival. Oh whoops, I said that "a" word. Sorry, what was I thinking? Clinton is a cutthroat and that isn't really an issue is it? Obama gots some mountains to crawl over before he actually can consider a "cabinet." Doesn't he?

There is an interesting project in democracy just getting started on the web right now. It consists of an automated and continuously updated voting on the possible VP, cabinet, and major posts in a possible Obama administration. The results are instantly viewable and the system is fairly tamper proof. Furthermore, the lists of nominees are continually expanded to include all other reasonable suggestions. The voting works well, is simple to operate, and will remain open until moot so take a look and come back for follow up research any time (and spread the word so we can improve our sample): http://puredem.wordpress.com
