Proto Political Correctness

New Yorker, February 25, 2008 (not available online). Brahmin New Yorker and novelist Louis Auchincloss writing to his mother in 1945 (itals mine):

"Of course, like so many cynical jews, he believed that all people were like him except less smart. And that, don't you think, is their most trying characteristic: the unwillingness to concede any ethical approach in others higher than their own, the 'oh-ho I know you' attitude with which they sneer at a world that is bad enough to prove them right more than half the time. All of which, I suppose, would brand me as a hopeless anti-Semite, Nazi, etc., but one simply can't be bothered with labels any more"

Anti-semitism: just a 'label', an ipso facto slur and act of intellectual fascism since no decent white person like him could actually be guilty of that failing. It wasn't his fault the jews are so inferior but it was his duty to point it out. How he suffers under the white man's burden of saying what so obviously must be said. Gifted writer though he is, he didn't think to come up with the concept of 'political correctness'. So he could denounce it.

I love happening upon this kind of thing because it's so drearily amusing to hear whites go on today about how no one can speak "the truth" without running afoul of political correctness. "There used to be a time..." No, there hasn't been, not for a long time now.

Before the ink was dry on Lee's surrender at Appomattox, whites were baying about how blacks (though they used a slightly different term) were getting all of society's bennies and a poor white man didn't stand a chance, couldn't speak his mind. Kid you not. (The books I need are elsewhere, and we're snowed in up here in the north country, but I'll track them down.) Reconstruction didn't derail itself; whites had to get themselves good and rage-filled over their oppression at the hands of their newly freed slaves first. They weren't bigoted, anti-democratic barbarians after all. When the Radical Republicans called them on their racism and violence, guess what? They couldn't be bothered with "labels" either. They had a duty to perform, they had a country to take back from the freedmen who were oppressing them.

Writing in 1945 with the world torn apart after having grown up in wealthy Whartonian, exclusive New York, Auchincloss was acutely feeling the loss of his privilege to be chauffeur-driven around his own psyche. What with all the dark/poor peoples of the world rising up and Rosie the Riveter freed from her kitchen, it's only human that he felt besieged, deprived of goodies he'd thought his birthright (like not having jews criticize whites). I'm not playing gotcha! with history; it's far too facile to collect chestnuts like this one and think you know who that person is today. It matters only in showing that the change isn't that conservatives can't speak their minds "anymore". The change is that we little people get to answer back, finally. Entrenched power just never gets used to that.

“There was a time” is nothing more than a metaphysical construct of being—like “Once upon a time” is the format for a fairy tale…. …I mean as though we can assume that there was such a thing as “human freedom”, or “absolute liberty” or “equality” or a human ability to be truly “unbiased” or even a definition for a concept like “being human” or “being” it self for that matter. A great many concepts are indeed entertaining and yet so general that they become impenetrably opaque but are also equally somewhat vacuous—nonetheless we have a general understanding of the “ideas” such terms evoke unless we think about them and discover that we don’t really have a grasp of them after all.

Still there a times where there are greater degrees of freedom, where opposing sides are able to make their judgments in a relatively open forum and where these opposing views hold approximate equal power and thus cannot be dismissed as liberal rubbish or conservative dogma—that of course is not our present era. But simply reflect upon the beginning of the Christian Conservative Reagan presidency back in the early 1980’s where it was actually possible to make a film showing what today would most likely be called “anti-Semitic” and yet back then this was done using big name stars (W. Hurt, S. Weaver, in “Eyewitness”), meaning the film was intended to be serious. Such a film wouldn’t be possible today because in our present day and age Jimmy Carter is being cast as “anti-Semitic”—thus anti-Semitic certainly is a term showing a radical spectrum in terms of definition—one that boarders on the absurd. I wonder whether Anwar Sadat would have ever considered Jimmy Carter to be “anti-Semitic” or say Yasser Arafat. I seriously doubt they would summarize him in that sort of a category (such a thought would be absurd for them because he was rather the opposite to them—representing a pro-Zionist mentality), but of course I seriously doubt that Rabin would classify Carter in the “anti-Semitic” vain either because he would have viewed him a friend of Israel and of Jews in general—so what do we call those people who considered Rabin as being so anti-Semitic that they murdered him?

OH MAN!!!!--you've really gone off the deep end here--the man in the street has no power in this topsy turvy world of ours...

NONE AT ALL!!!! Instead of the approx. 15 different kinds of non-citizen WORK ID, who wouldn't (?) demand changing to a single WORK ID; you know, a change away from the status quo, where crime pays for ol' Richy, and there's no penalty, none at all, even should that ol' boy find himself caught...

Fickle George W. broke his campaign promise to limit green house gases from power stations--KNOWING THERE'S NOT A DAMN THING ANYONE CAN DO ABOUT IT!!!!

LIKE--YOU TELL ME: Who Killed The Electric Car???? The new Maglev Wind Generators produce 20% more juice, and can operate off of 3 mph winds!!!! They're environmentally friendly, and are perfectly suited for offshore wind farms (as in not top heavy and would be constantly generating power...)

HA, HA: All people are base--though, yes, of course, some are less intelligent than others...

It's like where Jesus said that the way to address crime is to address poverty...

...You know--either you're an exploiter of the poor (shop at Wal-Mart...???), or you're actually one of the nasty poor...

INDEED: Today's political correctness is nothing more than gaudy window dressing on a cesspool!!!! We have a two term President who never actually won a Presidential Election!!!!

Recently, scientists successfully hacked into voting systems from three of the four largest manufacturers!!!! See the July 2007 NY Times article: Scientist's Tests Hack Into Electronic Voting Machines in California and Elsewhere.

There, now are you happy????

This is Black History Month. Dr. Raphael discusses the central role of the Jews in the New World commerce and the African slave trade (pp. 23-25Jews and Judaism in the United States Jews and Judaism in the United States
pp. 14, 23-25.
"Jews also took an active part in the Dutch colonial slave trade; indeed, the bylaws of the Recife and Mauricia congregations (1648) included an imposta (Jewish tax) of five soldos for each Negro slave a Brazilian Jew purchased from the West Indies Company. Slave auctions were postponed if they fell on a Jewish holiday. In Curacao in the seventeenth century, as well as in the British colonies of Barbados and Jamaica in the eighteenth century, Jewish merchants played a major role in the slave trade. In fact, in all the American colonies, whether French (Martinique), British, or Dutch, Jewish merchants frequently dominated.”

"This was no less true on the North American mainland, where during the eighteenth century Jews participated in the 'triangular trade' that brought slaves from Africa to the West Indies and there exchanged them for molasses, which in turn was taken to New England and converted into rum for sale in Africa. Isaac Da Costa of Charleston in the 1750's, David Franks of Philadelphia in the 1760's, and Aaron Lopez of Newport in the late 1760's and early 1770's dominated Jewish slave trading on the American continent." Let me see if I have this right. We are willing to fight an unpopular war for oil, but we are not willing to oppose a popular subsidy to import sugar to make ethanol. This decision means that thousands will die needlessly here and abroad. There are no politicians making decisions in the national interests for the betterment of economic, energy or national security. Rather, all politicians want to get their friends paid and themselves re-elected. That is all.

Political correctness = truth not allowed--but isn't the truth of the pudding in the eating...?

Now I'm reading (Yahoo News) that our Governors aren't afraid to speak their mind--on coal!!!

Let's face up to it--according to the U.S. Dept. of Energy, land WIND potential is 150% of our current useage... And offshore potential is virtually limitless...

Isn't the real deal here evinced by the Great American Streetcar Scandal (Wikipedia)--just like water off a duck's back: "entrenched power" was fined a dollar for criminally replacing electric streetcars with diesel buses...

Or even better yet, what about the recent MIT study that disclosed how ethanol: causes slightly more greenhouse gas than gasoline, causes slightly more everyday type smog than gasoline, significantly raises the price of natural gas...

"... every $1 of profits earned by ADM's corn sweetener operation costs consumers $10, and every $1 of profits earned by its ethanol operation costs taxpayers $30," Archer Daniels Midland: A Case Study In Corporate Welfare, CATO Institute.

"... we little people get to answer back ..." Consider how our champions have fathered movies like Who Killed the Electric Car--futilely...

Nowadays an electric car can go as far on a single charge as a car can go on a tank of gas, with recharging taking minutes instead of hours; there's no good reason why service stations can't offer quickly changeable battery packs.

What about that guy who sued to keep the automakers from canceling the lease on his electric pickup truck...???

This is Black History Month, and the bottom line here is how the Chinese authorities have banned the meditative practice of Falun Gong: "In an attempt to eradicate the practice, practitioners have been publicly vilified by state media, fired from their jobs and subjected to widespread torture in custody, beatings, illegal imprisonment, psychiatric abuses, and forced labor terms. In early 2006, David Kilgour and David Matas published a report, based on circumstantial evidence, that concluded that the authorities have been systematically harvesting the organs of living practitioners," Wikipedia.
