The Military Hates Obama. Oh Really?

How on EARTH can the Washington Times write an article saying the military is "expressing trepidation" about Barack Obama's candidacy, and add quotes like:

"We're very concerned about his apparent lack of understanding on the threat of radical Islam to the United States," said retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney, who is pro-Iraq war and a Fox News analyst. "A lot of retired senior officers feel the same way."

and:

A senior Pentagon official said an Obama swearing-in "will give the Arab street the final victory, the best optics, and the ultimate in bragging rights. They win. We lose."

without ever mentioning the fact that Barack Obama has received more donations from members of the military than any other candidate in the presidential race?

The Washington Times usually makes no bones about their right-wing leanings. They're owned by Rev. Sun Myung Moon and usually spout ill-founded conservative tripe like that. Fortunately this is painfully clear to most people and that's why the times doesn't really have an enormous circulation - most people in DC just read the Post anyway.

Numbers don't matter. The military hates commie democrats, don't you see?

Apparently some of these "retired senior officers" are a little vague on the concept that once they are out of uniform, they no longer speak for everybody in the military. Just their own right-wing Republican selves.

Yeah Sean, you're right, numbers don't matter. If numbers mattered, someone would have pointed out to those clowns that of returning Iraq Vets filing to run for public office, nationwide, all but something like 'ONE', have filed to run for office as Democrats. Also that our Congress has typically been populated by MORE decorated combat Vets who are DEMS than Republican'ts too. Yeah, don't corn-fuse 'em with the FACTS. We can't have that!

I'm curious too ... how do they feel about the #1 and #2 Republicans, Bush & Cheney and their military service by comparison? Sheez.

It's called media bias, and it's everywhere.

I'm a veteran, I've been to Iraq twice as a US Army intelligence officer, and Obama has my vote.

The way I heard it Obama and Ron Paul were the top two, of course I heard Paul was the top earner of military campaign donations, but at any rate they obviously prefer the out of Iraq candidates. Could it be that after a few years of complete BS about not having the right equipment, not getting the right benefits, and not fighting the right war those that serve in the armed forces are tired of being jerked around? They sure seem to have put their money where their mouths are, or would be if blathering right wing idiots stopped claiming on their behalf that the military were all 100% republican and 100% pro war.

Not to worry, retired senior officers, Obama is in the bag. He has voted for every bloated Pentagon budget and has promised to make the military even larger at a time when the United States is not threatened by any military force.

The article cites 44 donations for Obama. Obama won in the donation count with 44... out of 980,000+ donors. That's a statistical blip and you are billing that as a counter the Times article? Oh but I suppose checks are still in the mail from every soldier in Iraq. Go find us some real evidence.

whoa. in 2004 military donations were $1.2M. this year they're $200K. guess they're feeling the pinch more than usual this year.

What most people don't understand is that when you get up as high as LT. GEN. or GEN. you are basically a politician now. This is a politician knowing that the military budget just won't be thrown at the Pentagon without checks, like the Bush administration and the likes of Hillary that show it will be status quo on the hill. Generals really don't speak for the military, there orders are followed, but not the thoughts of real soldiers.

too bad these retired military officers risked their lives for your freedom. yet their convictions are so strong for country they would do it again - however thankless you are. maybe you should wear the uniform - or are you just too damn scared???

I wish these armchair experts would stop telling me how the "generals", "admirals" and "commanders" are protecting my "freedom". They and their bosses, Bush and Cheney have done more to erode my freedoms than all those "supposed" enemies combined. I live on a fixed income and as of today,my freedom to enjoy the good life gets slimmer and slimmer. Each month I have to dig into my savings just to keep the water, heat and lights burning much less eat steaks at will. I appreciate what our military men and women did when we were actually threatened by enemies from outside our borders. But this ill advised, trumped up "war" didn't have anything to do with "MY" freedom.
