John W. McCain at the White House
Today, John Sidney McCain and George W. Bush were one. Bush endorsed McCain at the White House, saying, "John showed incredible courage, strength of character and perseverance in order to get to this moment and that's exactly what we need in a president." If you think Bush is so unpopular that he can't help McCain among conservatives, you're crazy. Hard-core right-wingers, the folks that don't really trust John McCain, love George Bush with an irrational passion. Of course, there's a danger that this endorsement will reinforce the notion that John McCain is running for what is essentially a third Bush term, in terms of both foreign and domestic policy. But the Democrats were going to hammer that point regardless of whether or not McCain made this trip to the Rose Garden.
The two men have a long history, displayed at right courtesy of a Think Progress photo montage.
For more on what John McCain needs to do to shore up the Republican base, see this.
Update: Bush: McCain "is not going to change" my foreign policy.

Comments
Ok soooo let's recap..
Bush kisses McCain and Lieberman. Bush hold hands with Saudi Prince Abdullah.
I know people sometimes refer to the GOP as the "Good Ol' Boys Club" but is it that kind of club with these kind of boys?
I guess we know Mark Foley likes boys.
And then there's Larry Craig who appears to have a thing for guys(in rest rooms).
Richard Curtis has paid a price for his fun.
Somehow Jeff Gannon(Duckert) had connections(my guess,"MC" Rove) to get in the White House press corp.
Then there was evangelical Ted Haggard who was a guest(adviser?) at the White House.
The list seems to go on and on.
But back to the point do you think McCain benefits from Bush's affection? I'm getting mixed signals.
This should not be a shock to anyone. McCain is an extreme right wing nut, not the moderate that the media likes to portray.
McCain has not been present to bother to vote on a single environmental issue, earning him an absolute zero score from the League of Conservation Voters and the moniker McWho from me.
McCain has voted against a woman's right to choose 100% of the time, earning him another absolute zero score, this time from NARAL. Good thing he'll never need an abortion.
McCain's health care policy is all about giving people the freedom to die outside the emergency room if they cannot afford the entrance fee.
And, McCain is perfectly willing to let the Iraq war drag on for a hundred years.
This is a moderate??!!?
This is an extremist. This is a wing nut crowded up against the right hand wall with the rest of the neocon nut jobs ... and he's reaching for a jackhammer.
