McCain: Contradicting His Record on Gay Rights
John McCain is going on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" today to express moderate support for same-sex couples. He urges gay couples to enter "legal agreements" for the purposes of "insurance and other areas, decision that have to be made." You can see McCain's comments and Ellen's eloquence on the issue here:
Problem is, in 2006 McCain campaigned for Arizona Proposition 107 (video here), which, according to the proposition's website, sought to ban not only gay marriage and but also "giving recognition or benefits to marriage counterfeits, like 'civil unions' or 'domestic partnerships.'" That would suggest McCain's record doesn't match his words. Maybe his thinking has evolved in two years?
Hap tip to Cliff Schecter, who has more.

McCain looks mighty uncomfortable. He must really be itching for independent voters if he thinks that very moderate stance is going to woo many people in the Ellen-watching crowd.
The whole country evolved in the last two years. Legal protection where love is involved is a compassionate direction on the part of a good man. He has realized that. There were some genuinely graceful moments with two people, both free spirits in their own milieu. Give him credit for reaching out and listening.

McCain is like most politicians - talks out of both sides of his mouth. What I will give him credit for is not acting as Bill Clinton or W. did, pretending to be warmer to gays than they really were. Clinton came on strong for the gay vote then threw us under the bus with Don't Ask, Don't Tell and later the marriage amendment. George W. swept us into a group hug [I wasn't buying that shit for the record] with his talk of Compassionate Conservatism and we all know what bull that turned out to be. So while I have no respect for McCain in general, I think he at least was frank in staying the course on his view. Then again, what could he say? When you're counting on the votes of a big chunk of America's Most Ignorant, you pretty much have to tow the line.

We Chinese understand the situation. Taoist physicians regarded homosexuality among men, on the other hand as a dangerous practice- for several reasons. First of all, Yang is by nature an active, aggressive force, and, when two aggressive forces meet, a fundamental conflict of energies and intentions result. Male homosexuality requires that one partner yield to the other by adopting the female role, both physically and psychologically, and when this practice becomes a habit it completely undermines the fundamental role of Yang in the order of nature. Looking at this situation of Yang conflict at a microscopic scientific level, when sperm from two different men are mixed together and observed under magnification, they may clearly be observed fighting one another in a desperate struggle for supremacy.
Psychology aside, the greatest threat posed to men by homosexual practices are physiological.
Anal penetration, the mutual exchange of Yang sexual fluids, and frequent uncontrolled ejaculations are the culprits. Ancient Taoist physicians noted a pathological condition called 'Dragon Yang Syndrome' which occurred exclusively among promiscuous male homosexuals. 'Dragon Yang' (lung-yang) is a common Chinese euphemism for male homosexuality, equivalent to the English word 'gay'. Symptoms of this ailment included weakness and fatigue, skin ulcers and boils, low immunity, and impotence.
