McCain Finally Renounces Hagee; What About Parsley?
John McCain today finally denounced and rejected the endorsement of fundamentalist Pastor John Hagee. It wasn't Hagee's comments on the Catholic Church "the great whore") or gays (God sent Hurricane Katrina to New Orleans as punishment for a gay pride parade) that went too far for McCain. It was Hagee's claim on a 1990s television show that Hitler was doing "God's work" during the Holocaust by setting in motion events that forced Jews to return to Israel.
Now what about Rod Parsley? This political ally of McCain has decried Islam as a "false religion" and says it's the historic mission of the United States to eradicate Islam. McCain has yet to reject the endorsement from Parsley, with whom he campaigned in February. It's tough to figure out McCain's moral universe. Attributing Hitler's mass-murder of Jews to God--that's a no-no. Calling for the destruction of an entire religion? So far, that's no reason for McCain to reject an endorsement.
UPDATE: After McCain rejected Hagee's endorsement, Hagee withdrew his endorsement of McCain. In other words, you can't fire me, I quit.
BTW, McCain is also finally releasing his medical records--after postponing doing so for a year. But he's making these records available for only three hours on a Friday before a holiday weekend--to guarantee less media coverage--and his campaign has sort of banned New York Times reporter Lawrence Altman, one of the leading medical reporters in journalism, from reviewing the records. Only a handful of media outfits selected by the campaign will be permitted to send reporters to a conference room in Phoenix to examine the records. And the Times was not chosen. None of the reporters will be allowed to make any copies of the records.

Hagee is a Christian Zionist. The Methodist Church is not. Hillary Clinton's United Methodist Church reaffirms opposition to Israeli occupation at General Conference, and
Overwhelmingly affirms divestment as an option for pressuring for an end to Israel's occupation and
Creates task force to set human rights criteria for church investments/divestment in the Middle East, Darfur and China, and
Begins direct corporate engagement with Caterpillar, Inc to discuss role in the Palestinian Occupied Territories.
Obama's church is all talk, no action.
"Obama's church is all talk, no action."
You mean that Obama's church is a church, not a Political Action Committtee? Shocking, that...

My understanding is following his shootdown over Hanoi, John McCain was tied, inverted, to a rough-hewn wooden truss and his testicles where whipped with a wooden dowel by a sadistic female Vietnamese private. Subsequently he has gone around the bend, voting Republican, embracing George Bush, ect. I would like to see confirmation of this in his medical file, poor fellow.

McCain's hypocrisy shows the double standards that comes from often-white privilege. He's simply not held to the same standard and isn't sensitive to his own position.
At CrushedPlanet.com, we've just launched and have a series that asks average American sensitive questions. Check out our link for a preview where we asked a black man and white woman how their life would be if they were white/black reversed.

No matter her church, Hillary is still a supporter of Likud and a potential bomber-obliterator of Iran.

Franklin:
My understanding is following his shootdown over Hanoi, John McCain ended up getting preferential treatment, which included personal attention by a female doctor, in exchange for which he offered....what? One report is that he gave radio statements pleasing to his captors. There is also the curious matter, later when he was in Congress, of his refusing - and in a very firm way - to help the families of MIA's to get Congress to investigate reports of live sightings of their loved ones. What's the real story here? If there were such radio broadcasts, there should be some record of them somewhere. One would hope some honest investigative body would do some research here, and put this two-sided story right.

98% of Americans will think that John Hagee is crazy once they are aware of this statement.
Rev. Dr., A Zionist is simply someone who believes that Jews have a right to a state of their own. That is all it means. Of course, Hagee calls himself a Christian Zionist, but he want a Jewish state with no Jews in it.
On the other hand the Methodist Church came extremely close to boycotting the entire state of Israel. this is unfairly blaming Israel for everything that goes wrong and seeing Israel as being uniquely evil. Jews are caught between these two sides. Amy Jill-Levine wrote a book called the Misunderstood Jew: The Church and the Scandal of the Jewish Jesus. She has a chapter called, "With Friends Like These," about Liberation Theology and the Jews.
I am a liberal Jew, but I am less worried about John Hagee. As I said above most Americans will dismiss him as a nut case. The sort of antisemitism that affects me daily is the more subtle antisemitism that exists in the antimovement. The antisemitism that is obssessed with the "power of the American Jewish Lobby". The antisemitism that blames the Jewish lobby and Israel for the war with Iraq. I could not join the anti-war movement and keep my self-respect. It is very disturbing when the left and antiwar movement sound like they are channeling Pat Buchanan or Robert Novack. My brother is involved, but I didn't find his response that "ther will always be people in the anti-war movement like that," to very convincing. BTW, my brother is a former Weatherman. Yes, I know that some of these people are Jewish, but that does not make it OK. I can only say that Clarence Thomas is Black.
Mother Jones has never been able to admit that there is antisemitism on the left, but is real. You can't change what you don't ackowledge.
I realize that you will probably dismiss me as a hawk or someone who is using the cry of antisemitism against these poor people who are only "merely being critical of Israel". First of all, I do support a Palestinian state beside Israel. Second, I want to see the settlements disbanded. There is a difference between valid criticism of Israel and antisemitism or unfair one-sided crticism of Israel. Criticism of Israel has an intensity and a ferocity that I don't see in the criticism of any other country.
This post is much longer than I planned, but I had a lot to get off my chest. I still could go on, but I won't.

Susan dear, if you are a true liberal, you will speak out against injustice in Israel like you do in America. I don't think that you do. If you don't, you are a closet racist. Israel does have it problems. A civil rights group in Israel has released a report which claims racism is rife in Israel and highly damaging to those it touches.
The Association for Civil Rights in Israel said Israel was seeing a new level of racism that was damaging privacy and freedom of expression.
The report pointed to a large percentage rise in the number of racist incidents against Arabs, sometimes brought about by Jewish youths who see Arabs as “unclean”.
Social analysts reported only half of Israel’s Jewish population believed that Jews and Arabs should have full equal rights.
Among Jewish respondents, 55 percent supported the idea that the state should encourage Arab emigration from Israel while 78 percent opposed the inclusion of Arab political parties in the government.
The report concluded the results were the consequence of a racist campaign and anti-Arab racist policies led by political and military leaders.

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) is the “Conscience of the Senate.” Nevertheless, he won’t come clean about what really happened to the USS Liberty, at the hands of the Israelis, via napalm, gunfire, torpedoes and missiles, on June 8, 1967, 13 miles off the coast of the Sinai Peninsula. McCain’s conscience, it seems, has its limits. I suspect it’s because the powerful Israeli Lobby weighs in so ominously in Washington, DC, protecting the interests of its favorite country -- Israel -- and making sure the mostly mousey congress people are kept totally in line or else. The unprovoked assault on the Liberty, which lasted 75 minutes, killed 34 brave Americans and wounded 172 others (Assault on the Liberty, James M. Ennes, Jr. and James Bamford’s Body of Secrets). The Israelis were trying to murder all 294 Americans on board the surveillance vessel, sink it, and make it look like the Egyptians had done it (Operation Cyanide, by Peter Hounam). One of the Navy bigwigs pushing hard for a sanitized Liberty inquiry was none other than Sen. McCain’s father, Admiral John S. McCain, Jr., Commander-in-Chief, Naval Forces Europe. Many competent and authoritative responses have been made to all of the lame excuses raised by the Israelis and their sycophants. For compelling evidence, check out the books of Ennes, Bamford and Hounam cited above; also, go to the www.ussliberty.org site itself, and its related links
