Clinton Effectively Drops Out
Just received from the Clinton campaign:
Senator Clinton will be hosting an event in Washington, DC to thank her supporters and express her support for Senator Obama and party unity. This event will be held on Saturday to accommodate more of Senator Clinton's supporters who want to attend.
More details from the AP:
On the telephone call with impatient House supporters, Clinton was urged to draw a close to the contentious campaign, or at least express support for Obama. Her decision to acquiesce caught many in the campaign by surprise and left the campaign scrambling to finalize the logistics and specifics behind her campaign departure.
How anyone could be surprised by her conceding at this point is beyond me.
Update: The Obama campaign says it is open to paying off some of Clinton's campaign debt. "Obviously we want to help each other," says Obama surrogate Tom Daschle.

I am not surprised in the least by Hillary"s stubborn refusal,up to now,to concede defeat to Obama. She has always considered herself to be the front runner in this race, and when faced with the truth,we see just how ungracious and ungenerous she can be.I,for one would have welcomed a woman as president of our nation, but not that woman.

I agree.

Is the FOG lifting yet? What a nightmare Hillary created for us all to endure. This campaign should have been interesting, respectful, and educational. Instead it was petty & spiteful filled with dirty tricks, lies, and a 'kitchen sink' mentality.Last night was icing on the cake, when Hillary failed to congratulate Senator Obama. What a disgrace.

What the hell is the problem out here. You poeple talk she lady is to rollover and disapear because she lost.No stay until the very end.In my mind she was setup from the jump. The press cliam she was a shoe in from the start. So that give all you who have issue with Bill .Reason to be more agaist her.Now she did not run the best show. And once the race card came in all us blacks got on the wagon. So if she has any cards to play I say play them Don't do like Jackson in 88.When didn't get anything in the platform. So take it easy let bargain or not bargain cause if any of us.Was in the her position we would also and that's how it should be.

Clinton is well qualified and no doubt expected to win, but rather than press her own or her party's agenda, she chose to campaign in a way that unfairly cut Obama's credibility as a potential President. Unfortunately for Democrats, this is ammunition the GOP will be able to take to the bank. It will be a dark day indeed if loyalty to Clinton spurs Dems to vote McCain and abandon this unique opportunity for an American renewal. I hope this will not be Clinton's lasting legacy, but it should be a message to all future primary candidates; don't trash your opponent; he or she may well end up as the nominee and have to go against a strong Republican. Stick to the issues.

She has reserved her right to have her name slated at the convention.
She's not really out.

I always wondered why people kept saying that she was a favourite before this, and ridiculed her for losing the plot.
She never said she was the favourite. The media did.
And somehow, the favourites tag worked against her, I'm sure, by psychologically putting into the minds of people that she's this bad-ass Goliath that needs to be brought down.
I won't say that the media has a sinister plot against her, but from what I've seen and read, the result of their coverage and writings has caused some prejudice against her.
