What If the Stimulus Bankrupts the Government?
Dear IRS,
I am writing to ask whether I may return my 2007 stimulus payment of $89.43. I read today that this payment has contributed to a record-breaking federal budget deficit for the month of May—a whopping $166 billion—and feel that it is my patriotic duty to return my windfall to keep the bankers in Dubai from foreclosing on major American landmarks. I can survive without it, and certainly wouldn't feel good about spending the extra money knowing that my kids will still be paying interest on it well into their old age. Besides, eighty bucks won't do much for this rotten economy so you might as well keep it where it could do some good. Maybe you can use it to catch some tax cheats.
Thanks.

Why not just send your whole paycheck, along with anything you might have inherited from your parents?
Then just let the government decide what you need and take care of getting it for you?
After all, that's why governments are instituted among men. (Isn't that what Jefferson wrote?)
I know I send them all the money I can get MY hands on!
They just do SO much good for SO many!
Why..., when I want to do something charitable to help those who I believe actually NEED help..., Federal Government is ALWAYS where I send MY Check!
I thought everyone was suppose to get $600. and families were to get $1200. to stimulate the economy, but instead, I got $300. and families I know got $600., now you say you only got $89.43. You sure can't do much stimulating on $89.43.
I wonder what the criteria was for families to receive $1,200. and individuals to receive $600. Maybe the people issuing the checks got corrupted and decided they needed more for themselves, since corruption seems to be a malady of the REPUBLICANS.
I doubt that it did any good anyway as most of our economy goes to support communist China and other similar countries; especially if people spend them at Wal-Mart.
Yes, the nation is bankrupt and it was bankrupt before the checks were issued.
President Obama will be inheriting more than his share of trouble with the nation, so I am glad he is a Christian because it will take lots of expertise with God's guidance to get out of the mess George W. Bush and the DLC democrats got our nation into trying to destroy the common population's economic infrastructure.
I just hope Bush doesn't declare marshal law before Obama gets to take over as president, because he has set up for it.

Eighty bucks? What kind of stimulus payment is that? It's supposed to be at least $300. If you only got $89.43, then you have already given them back enough.
Spend the $89.43 and stop worrying about your "fair share".
America won't live or die over something you do.

I'm giving $500 of mine to the Obama campaign, in the hopes that Barack would never do anything as stupid as the economic stimulus package.

I am a single parent. I have 3 children. I got $600: $300 for me and $300 for my eligible child. I don't know how the IRS determines the criteria. My sister and her husband in Florida have no children living at home and got a bigger stimulus check. A neighbor who is also a single parent of three children got a bigger stimulus check as well. But, her oldest child is the same age as my youngest. So, I'm guessing the age of the qualifying chidren also has something to do with it.

Donna, the gov't's bottom line is that you will NOT get back more in "stimulus" than whatever you total tax liability was for '07.
That's why some people who thought they'd be eligible for the much-ballyhooed six-hundred-bucks, or whatever-it-was, didn't get that much. They hadn't PAID that much.
I.O.W., they won't give you back more than you ended up paying for 2007.
I found that out from a little research I did to find out why I didn't get nearly what was 'estimated' in a letter sent to me by the IRS, weeks before the payments went out.

I used my wife's so-called stimulus check to return to my bank account what private bankers (AKA, The Federal Reserve) took from us in order to collect ever more interest on money that our government has borrowed from them.
My wife and I both work, have no kids, and are in the deadliest tax bracket known to Americans - that being the blue-collar middle.
Apparently, the several thousand that they took from our paychecks just wasn't enough to satisfy.
None the less, the $600 that the government just gave us (again, borrowed at interest from the crooks at the Federal Reserve) went towards patching the hole that the IRS left in our account.
When I receive my own "stimulus refund", I plan to invest in Chinese business endeavors.

I didn't think I was eligible for any stimulating as I had no earned income (unless you count unemployment income). I received a letter from the IRS saying I was getting $600. I used it to pay a bill. So much for stimulating the economy.

There seems to be some confusion as to why the author got an $89 stimulus check. You get less if your income is over 75k per year, 150k married filing jointly.
My husband and I together got a $134 stimulus check. Every dollar over 150k we made of AGI meant a lower stimulus check

Funny...my husband and I thought we were getting $1200 as well - until, after several teasing letters, we received our $192. Guess where that went? Yep...right into the tanks of the cars that take us to work (and nowhere else, these days!)

As long as they are in control of the banks, we will be tortured with bubble after bubble of crap. We might as well base our economy on tulips, after all, they're way prettier than these green, worthless, dirty dollaz.

Oh, that's an easy one! Let me guess!!
Considering that Bush has an extreme propensity for feeding this nation a load of crap, I'm going to go with him, given his track record. Although Obama MAY act in a likewise manner, it seems doubtful that he'll be able to pull off a similar scam.
No, if anyone is capable and WILLING to do so, it'll be Bush.

The IRS found out it was going to cost to much so they make up the rules as they go along. The way I figure it if all your children were living with you and dependent on you.
You should of gotten $1200.00 what a bunch of crap.
And on the other hand giving back your money won't help, it is our tax dollars there giving us. We need term limits on all members of goverment, what happening now they find a sweet spot and milk until they Die.

Mike, when the question is whether Obama will ever do anything as stupid as the stimulus package, (poster george w.'s hope, expressed above..) and B.O.'s already on record as wanting another 30 Billion Dollars worth, and everyone posting here seems to be in agreement that the "stimulus" scheme is going to do nothing to "stimulate" the economy.., What the Hell DIFFERENCE does it make?
Any way you look at it, and either guy's scheme you examine, it's all money us TAXPAYERS are going to end up getting taken for a second time ANYWAY!
They're both singing off the SAME sheet music!

Dear Stimulate This,
Haven't you been watching the news? Obama wants to LOWER taxes for the middle class. He only wants to raise them for those making over $200K/yr.
Our government can't survive on air, and I don't want my unborn grandchildren to pay your bills. Taxes are a necessary evil...but I think the present structure could certainly be a whole lot more fair. I'd sure like to see Exxon bear more of it's own burden.

Reminds me of Bush's disastrous Tax Rebate in 2001 which added 60 billion $ to the national debt.
I will pay down some of my unsecured debt.

I must have contributed all of mine, glad to have helped, I guess? They sent me the form to fill out saying I could send it back or sign up online, which I did as I'm disabled from an accident and didn't know when I'd be able to get out to mail it. Last 2 of ss# is 02, I have direct deposit so I waited, then waited some more, then... nothing, not even an apology for getting my hopes up! :) Guess they can add it to all the taxes I paid for 40 years while working 2 jobs at a time? Can't work anymore but I think this makes me still a contributing member of society?

I agree with you Carlos Perez, and I will reinforce what you wrote. In fact the International Banks are the owners of the Federal Reserve, not the US Government. Woodrow Wilson sold the Federal Reserve to Bank owners such as the J.P. Morgan, Rockefellers, and Rothschilds among others. He betrayed his own country and kept it a secret. He broke the Americans Constitution rights by giving the "money changers" power over the country. No wonder the country is always on the verge of bankruptcy. He betrayed the forefathers dream of a land of justice and freedmon, and now Americans and most of the world are their slaves. According to the American Constitution paying Income Tax is illegal. This is why Robert Kennedy was assassinated because he threatened to disclose their great sham; and before this President Lincoln was too murdered due to the extreme greed and lust for power of the "money changers". Legally they do not have the right to impose the IRS and much less the great scam that mortages are. Therefore, it is no surprise how there is so much poverty and misery in one of the richest countries in the world. The time to wake up is now America. Stop the great manipulation by your corrupt leaders that are in cahoots with the great Bank houses, that instead of improving your health and education wish to ruin it and keep you ignorant in order to control you. This is why the Media is under their control, to screen out any news that reveals their shady deals. The American people still can regain their power by informing themselves and fighting for their rights. Jefferson actually predicted that this could happen in the future. Remember Americans you hold the majority in numbers and only a few control global affairs. Ask yourselves if globalization has been benefiting the average American? Ask yourselves if the overproduction of goods is not designed to enrich their pockets, for I do not see it trickling down to the poor. The middle class is under attack, and if you do not take action and defend your rights as human beings you will soon join the poor classes. Ask yourselves why the Great Depression of 1933 happened? It didn't have to happened, but it was orchestrated to feed off the greed of "the money changers". The time to gain control now of your destiny is now America.

Even though it's a bit off topic with the blog post M Daaz has it pretty much right. I would just argue that America never belonged to the "people". The American aristocracy just toss us a few crumbs here and there to keep us happy enough not to revolt. Even the left leaning politicians basically provide the ability for people to blow off steam while keeping the system running relatively smoothly.

Cats: Yeah, I keep track of the news, and not by just "watching" it on TV.
As I said earlier, Obama is proposing another "stimulus" package to the tune of 30 Billion dollars. Poster 'george w.' doesn't seem likely to get his wish, in spite of his donation to the campaign.
Weren't you listening?
And CNN-Money's analysis sez Obama's TAX CUT plan would add 3.3 TRILLION to the deficit over ten years, while McCain's would add 4.5 TRILLION. Choose you poison, but rest assured whatever you choose is economic POISON.
The only guy who seems to have a handle on what's going wrong with the economy is Ron Paul, but he doesn't seem to have a handle on how to play ball with the corporations and get elected (isn't WILLING..., actually)
Have you heard anything from either candidate about cutting SPENDING, to allow for tax cuts? Because this nation can't survive on air, and we sure can't cut down our 'air' supply at the same time we try to 'breathe' the same amount as before.

As far as the author of this blog suggesting that the IRS use her pathetic $90 in order to catch tax cheats......well, if she assumes that the cheaters are not the folks at the IRS and the bankers at the Federal Reserve, she must not be very well informed.
