Where's Your Economic Stimulus Check?

However my liberal friends and I may have tsk'd the Bush administration for claiming that $600 checks would save America, we broke liberals sure were excited to get our hands on that money. Congress passed the Economic Stimulus Act in February, giving the IRS a couple months to get payments to some 130 million taxpayers when it was already in the middle of filing season, and giving some 130 millions taxpayers reason to start freaking out about when—when?!—they were going to get their supplement. Thus, I wasn't shocked when I called to do just that and a recording told me that the IRS is currently experiencing heavy call volume and led me though an automated menu that ultimately told me to keep my pants on for three more weeks, and hung up. I had to wonder: How bad must the ESA suck for the IRS?

Pretty bad, according to testimony of national taxpayer advocate Nina E. Olson before the House last week. The IRS hauled ass to develop new programming code, create new pages and a stimulus calculator on its website, mail notices to more than 100 million taxpayers, mail information packages to 20 million more, develop outreach initiatives for seniors, and staff 700 walk-in sites in a "Super Saturday" assistance bonanza. By the first week of June, the IRS had received 27.7 million calls concerning economic stimulus payments. For that same week, call attempts were up 279 percent versus the same period last year. The level of service on the economic stimulus hotline was 30 percent. To deal, the IRS has shifted so many employees from account management and collections that collections will be reduced by $565 million.

Olson worried about the effects of delays and exceptions on taxpayers in her testimony, but admitted that, overall, the IRS is doing a pretty amazing job. Only 1,500 economic stimulus checks have been transmitted in the wrong bank account. About 350,000 people didn't get the additional funds for their dependents. About 20 million taxpayers who purchased refund anticipation loans or checks will get their checks tardily. Even those errors, the IRS says, will be rectified by mid-July. According to the IRS Web schedule, my check would be "mailed no later than (and received a few days after)" May 16. The agency sent me a letter on June 9 saying that I could expect to receive it by June 13. I called fruitlessly a few days after that, and my check came shortly after. So where's your check? It's probably coming. Keep your pants on for three more weeks.

I got my check.

I'll use it to help get me through the worst economic times I've ever seen. This is like 1975 except with 2 wars thrown in and stagflation instead of inflation.

But don't worry, it will be soon to follow. It has to... the dollar is losing value daily and transportation costs are driving prices for everything up through the roof.

The stimulus checks were a bad idea to begin with. The government had to borrow the money to pay for them, and checks to taxpayers are a sub-optimal way to provide short-term stimulus to the economy (better would have been using the money to do a combination of unemployment benefits extensions and public works).

As is, the US is going (deeper) into hoc to send free money to people, many of whom do not need it. To all of you out there for whom the stimulus is really necessary, I'm glad you are getting it, but I dearly wish the government had been a lot smarter about this.

The "stimulus checks" are another gimmick--but I wil say one thing. It REALLY sucks that alot of the veterans I work with, who have "personality disorders" (God forbid PTSD!Then we'd have to pay them disability, which is enough to meagerly live on--these are Viet vets--they've been doing it ever since), and are on "indigent pay" (ABOUT $900 A MO. IN oHIO!)were sent papers to file taxes this year to specifically get their "rebate", and NONE of them have showed up. The hotline is useless, so is the website. This is a shameful mess indeed, and i'd better start hearing a little out of St. Obama about the truly impoverished, or i'm going to writein Cynthia McKinney!

I believe Bush didn't borrow enough money to pay out all the Stimulus checks, so he's waiting until Iran is bombed, either by his regime, or Israel, to gain control of the oil, make his money from it, to pay the rest.

Our check was also due to arrive on May 16th. I called the IRS at the end of May and all I got was automated answers. First call answer, we do not have a valid social security number (so wrong). Second call answer, we have no record of you (but you kept our check for taxes). Third call answer, because you filed late (middle of February) you will not receive your stimulus check until July 11th or after. Oh well, we never got that $300. tax rebate years ago either. Don't you just love Bush's privitized government agencies, I can't wait until they privitize the maintainance on Air Force One!

I got a letter saying that I would get $300 (what happened to $600?) sometime this month. It sure is a tempting thought to pay them with the same speed that they give a smidge back. I know what I'm goign to do with mine: $300= 2 tanks of gas for my company truck. Direct from the mail to the oil companies. Who's zooming who here? What a rip-off!

I didn't get anything. But I really didn't except anything from this administration.

I think we have to many people in this world anymore for anything to work out. I am scared for my kids. The stimulus check deal is a band-aide who cares where it was borrowed earned whatever, it doesnt matter. We would be better off as a communist society all over the world. Because we are watching people be enslaved everyday by our capitalist ideas and being promised this and that and its nothing but one big head leading the other big head. We go over to Iraq to show them how they should live granted yes Saddam was terrible to his people but I and my husband work our asses off and I barely have enough food in my home and the weldfare office says I make too much, hahahaha. We are starving. This is not right either. The irs said I was to have my check in the mail yesterday and to not call them for 3-4 weeks to allow it to get here, MY FAMILY NEEDS MONEY! where is it government.

capitalism was based on if you work hard you will achieve finacial success, not when minimum wage ranges from 6.75-7.35 and gas ranges from 4.10-4.90 and who controls this our government. Some of the most physically hard working americans make diddly squat while people in our state offices and city offices are making six figure incomes doing what? Eating another jelly doughnut. Disgusting! Capitalism is a fancy way of saying you are a slave trader to your own people. I am really upset about believing in the government. I need my stimulus check. I hope that people go down to the welfare office and start lieing about whos in there house etc. and start getting what is owed to you. Who are they to say I make to much money. And they have these recovered drug addicts as your social workers that look like they are hung over asking "well whos gonna pay this and whos gonna pay that" I say" none of your god dam business look at my wages and ask the government who the hell can live on this." and college loans hahahah another way our government entraps us to believe we just need to be educated and then we will be wealthy what a crock.

I didn't get a stimulus check and the IRS web site says it's because my Adjusted Gross Income was too high. That is bullshit. It's just because I'm single with no kids. That demographic is growing so we need to stop pretending that those people are not normal because they didn't want to marry someone they knew would change later and ruin their life. Most single people know married people and that is why they stay single. If they were not going to send me a rebate then they shouldn't have sent the latter saying they were. I hate this government but for so many more important reasons than this.

I was suppose to receive my stimulus check on June 13th. As of today July 8th I have not received it. I have called the hotline which tells you nothing and have used the "Where is My Stuimulus Check" webpage to look for my check. I can not find a number to call where I can actually speak with a person to ask the question, "Where is my stuimulus check" I did file a 2007 income tax.

Another thing, has anyone considered what monetizing the debt of this "stimulus package" will have done to the actual sum total of payment (in terms of spending power) received?

Yesterday's dollar ain't today's.

I was supposed to receive my direct deposit on May 16 according to my letter from the IRS, but it never showed. I noticed a paragraph at the bottom of the back of my letter saying that my rebate had been delayed. No further explanation. I have been patient. I just called them today, sat on hold for 40 minutes, gave them the reference number generated from the "Where's My Stimulus Payment" web page only to be told that there was no further notation on my account than what I had. They didn't know what the delay was for, said that my reference number meant my payment had been delayed and suggested I call back in a couple weeks. NO help at all.

Now, I understand the IRS didn't ask for all this stimulus stuff to get dumped on them, but can't they at least be better communicators? Can't they at least put more information on their web site acknowledging delays and reasons for them and actions they are taking? Something???

I was promised one, yet i havnt gotten mine and dont think i wont. i certainly would like $600, but this plan isnt going to fix the economy. I find it absurd that the government thinks this economic stiumulus plan will work. Their intention is to get money into the hands of americans who will go out and spend it like teenagers, yet they seem to come up with excuses as to why i dont qualify for this money. It shouldnt matter if your qualified or not, just as long as your someone who will go out and spend that money-isnt that simply all that matters? Our government is too fucking stupid to look at things in a simple way, and i think they have realized that this stimulus plan wont work, so theyre comming up with excuses as to why im not getting my check. The IRS expects me to file my taxes on time, yet they dont think i should get a measily $600 which was allready my money. THis is a perfect example of what is wrong with this government, and i hope the economy does go into a recession just to make the god damn government look even worse and incompetant, proving that they failed to stimulate the economy.

It's based on what's called a "Tax Rebate".

It's Not, and Never Was billed as a "Government Handout", where other taxpayers would foot the bill for You getting a "freebie".

In order to get a Tax Rebate on Federal Income Tax, you have to PAY some Federal Income Tax. And the rules limit the amount you can be rebated to the amount you actually paid in.

They just anounced that the congress is trying to approve a 2nd stimulus payment. I sent my first back, and I will send this one back if they send it.

Say no to money (even if it's hard). In 1913 the FRB was started. In 1929 our dollar was devalued and the economy didn't know what to do. There was a huge crash that led to a run on the banks, combined with the rising cost of goods that seriously helped to contribute to 1929.

Are our goods dramatically rising in cost? Is the stock market way down? Have any banks had a run yet?

Now our dollar is worth about 0.04 on the dollar. Our forefathers new that money should only be printed when its backed by gold or silver. For all intensive purposes it is not anymore.

Please don't take any more money. Sure, I would like money (like probably most people), but the part the government doesn't tell you is where they are getting that money, and that it will just end up making everything else cost even more. If you don't know how the FRB works find out!

Is this a country of the people, for the people, by the people? Is that what this is? Cuz I was never asked if any of this was okay!
