You Don't Understand. Joe Lieberman Wants to Be a Uniter
I'm back from two weeks in Africa and what better way to get back in the saddle than by nailing Joe Lieberman for being a hypocrite and a phony? On Meet the Press, Lieberman discussed the possibility of speaking at the Republican convention by saying, "If Sen. McCain feels that I can help his candidacy…I will do it." But he insisted his motives are pure:
I'm going to go to a partisan convention and tell them — if I go — why it's so important that we start to act like Americans and not as partisan mudslingers.
For some reason, I don't know that I believe Joe. Maybe it's because he once speculated that Obama is a socialist, despite the fact that after serving with Obama in the Senate for three years, he must know he isn't. Or that he once suggested electing Barack Obama would lead to an attack on America, because terrorists would try to test a new president as unprepared as Obama supposedly is. Or that he pushed the Obama-is-endorsed-by-Hamas nonsense and said it "suggests the difference between these two candidates." Or that he actually believes (or is willing to say publicly) that Obama is choosing to lose the Iraq War.
That sounds like an awful lot of bad faith and mudslinging from a guy who plans on going to the Republican convention as an envoy for comity and bipartisanship. Also, for the record, if Joe Lieberman fancies himself such an effective advocate for clean, friendly politics, maybe he could have a word with the man he's shilling for.
It feels good to be back in my "mother’s basement and ranting into the ether."

Welcome back, Jonathan. Isn't Lieberman the one that kept taking the stage with McCain throughout the earlier campaign and leaning in to whisper corrections into McCain's ear when he'd inevitably make a gaffe like calling Hamaas, Hezbollah?
joe is a phony his all about how many more american young men women can we get killed for isreal sake.

I saw that Meet The Press, and Lieberman "liberally" and rudely and constantly interrupted Senator Kerry, who was being his usual well-mannered self.... I think in a case such as that, the moderator should interrupt and explain to the offender that they "take turns"......not OVER-talk!!!! There was a constant SOUND coming from Lieberman's mout'!

Joe has a hard time keeping his priorities in order. He lives in America but his heart is in Israel, where he identifies with the militant Likud, the right wing political party.
His political shift appears to reflect his fear for Israel, just as Cheney's militantcy is a manifestation of his fear.

Oh, the Jew haters. It's amazing how inarticulate you guys are about this. There is some valid criticism of Israel and of the politics that brought about it's creation and subsequent fostering, but these simplistic rants just wash all that away. Study on it and then make some more thoughtful comments.

Now, now Paul..., with a suggestion like that, you're inviting a load of cut & paste 'comments' lifted from the neo-nazi sites.

"Joke" Lieberman will do anything in his attempt to remain relevant and in the public eye since his heydey as Gore's VP pick. However, his love for Israel should not be used to disparage Israel or the jewish people, who are, after all, trying to survive in a completely hostile part of the world. We as Americans have no place in the prejudices which have spawn pograms in Europe in the past, as well as that summit of evil, genocide. Let us keep our discourse on track: Lieberman is a joke as is McCain, completely willing to modify their stances for political expediency. There is only one principle involved with them, and that is to win.

While I, also, prefer Obama over McCain, I agree with much of what Lieberman said about Obama.
1) He is regarded as the softer candidate and his lack of experience is much discussed overseas;
2) He is overwhelmingly preferred by Muslims worldwide who view his Islamic and African-American background as more likely to produce an accommodating and less aggressive posture; and
3) There is a good deal of socialism in his policies, including a focus on 'progressive' tax schedules, new entitlements such as universal health care and wealth redistribution.
Whether you regard the above as good or bad is up to you. But let's not knock Joe Lieberman, an independent who has consistently acted with integrity in Congress, for pointing out the obvious. As for how any of this is related to Israel is completely beyond me....
