Why Every Liberal in Your Office Is Depressed Today
A new USA Today/Gallup poll has McCain leading Obama 50-46 among registered voters and a stunning 54-44 among likely voters. USA Today points out, a bit incoherently, that the convention has seriously energized the Republican base: "Republicans by 47%-39% were less enthusiastic than usual about voting. Now, they are more enthusiastic by 60%-24%, a sweeping change that narrows a key Democratic advantage."
There are a number of reasons not to freak out, of course. A lot can change between now and November, polling isn't everything, Gallup isn't super-reliable, the debates are an X-factor, yada yada yada. I suspect that won't be calming a lot of fluttering hearts. Maybe this will: Obama still holds a decisive lead in the electoral college tally.

I can't believe we are so stupid.
By now its been reinforced that the Republican party and John McCain cannot be trusted, are liars and will do ANYTHING to get elected.
John McCain has taken the lowest of his own traits and attributed them to Barack Obama. He knows himself well and therefore can attribute these traits knowingly. He only cares about himself and his ambition. And choosing Sarah Palin as his running mate only shows how dishonest and cynical he is.
The fact that McCain has to go to these lengths only tells you how desparate he knows he is.
Barack Obama is the most intelligent and sincere politician that we have had on our landscape for years. He will make a difference. His displays a deep understanding and love for this country that is unparalleled.
We cannot let the McCain campaign win this election. The Polls are close. The lies are vast. And many times folks do not do their research and find the truth. This year we must be vigilant and not let ourselves be corrupted by McCain, Palin and their viewpoints.

AM:
Isn't it true that the Democrats will also do "anything" to get elected?
Isn't it true that the Democrats are equally beholden to the corporate interest?
Has Obama opposed the war in any tangible sense? Did he not vote for retroactive immunity for the telecoms?
Did Pelosi cut off funding for the war? Impeach the President?
If you vote Democrat, what exactly are you voting for?
Or, to put it another way, if you are an active or partisan Democrat, you are not a liberal or progressive. (Yeah, I'm looking at you, Stein...)

Again,"mindless and deliberately misleading" stories such as this one
are precisely being placed and
used to manipulate the average
American into "believing that Polls " reflect actually true voting .... they are not!
Like most of you,ask yourself this fair and simple question:
How come nobody ever called me?
Why bother with polls anyway,
when deep in your soul your
Choice is clearly made up:
Barrack Obama for President !

You are forgetting a huge, important group in the population, i.e. those 18-20 year olds that have cell phones (not land lines) that support Obama. Kind of difficult to represent them in the polls. Don't believe the polls. All people need to do is ask themselves, "Am I better off today than I was 8 years ago?"
Posted by: Susan on 09/08/08 at 12:04 PM Respond
There is definitely still hope, as Susan pointed out, it is hard to represent "those 18-20 year olds", i.e. people like me, in which for most of us it is our first time voting in a presidential election, and there are a lot more than expected involved with this one.
So lets keep our heads up.

It is just a simple example of the Non-recirocal Law of Expectation:
"Negative expectations yield negative results. Positve expectations yield negative results".
Did you actually expect the polls to show Obama ahead?

Heard a radio guy this morning going on an on about that Gallup poll. Never gave any details about it, just that McCain had the lead and that 8 out of 10 callers wanted McCain. Well duh! This is Cali and our 55 EV are going to BHO no matter how many idiots want McBush/APuling.
Not technically true of course, but Cali is like 46 33 for Obama. That is a lot of overcome. But there is the inland empire. But wait, they are all being foreclosed on. Nevermind.

First off, the polls are only a very small section of the population. Second, they are put out by Corporations that have everything to gain by a McCain GOP Presidency. Third, it is only a few days after the GOP Convention McCain's popularity will fade after the first debate(just wait).

If McCain/Palin win and it isn't fraud by the Republican Party like they have done in the past, it has to be because of genteel peasants thinking they are aristocratic REPUBLICANS.
Genteel peasants who pay mortgage interest to others for the use of capital assets in order to maintain an illusory lifestyle beyond their class and cultural means; and who commonly demonstrate a misplaced sense of "license, privilege and grievance" in their behavior when dealing with their fellow peasants in the common population that is connected with the maintenance of their genteel illusion. Genteel peasant people are lost in the illusion and believe they are the wealthy to the extent that they choose to tear down their own common population's class and culture. Genteel Beau Brummel gone to seed [http://histclo.com/bio/b/bio-brum.html]
The 70% majority common population must realize who they are enough to choose Obama/Biden and face facts enough to get our country back on track. The McCains/Palin will represent the aristocratic elite at the expense of the common population and Obama/Biden will represent the common population at the expense of the aristocratic elite, the common population includes the middle class and all others that aren't huge corporations and the elite aristocrats. WE THE PEOPLE, the common population, must not allow ourselves to get caught up in the genteel illusory lifestyle to the point that we destroy our country altogether, which is what McCain/Palin will do.

What everyone is failing to take into consideration is that, despite the polls, a vast majority of the voting public vote for the candidate who they think LOOKS PRESIDENTIAL!
Let's face it, most people seem to be shallow. When they step up to punch those chads or touch those screens, it isn't the issues they are thinking of. It's the faces. And who's the better looking fella'? Who looks more presidential in his photos? Luckily, it's Obama.

at least Ralph Nader can't be blamed for another Democratic fiasco.
this time it's Bill and Hillary and their close friend John McCain. and their own inability to get rid of Bush during their majority the last two years-remember why you were put there...change the course!

I've read some 40 plus articles in local, national and international papers about Palin and the vast majority of the opinions and facts are negative and there appears to be a wealth of information that paints her as somewhat of a fundamentalist megalomaniac. Given the reports of McCain's tepid speech at their converntion, I can only surmise that the bounce the Republicans have shown is just a knee jerk reaction to a perceived attack on a fellow American and the public, on the whole, is "circling the wagons" in her defense. I feel like I'm the only one reading newspapers...maybe 1st poster Judith has hit the nail on the head?
Don't be afraid...be very afraid.

You people just don't get it do you..? Most people WANT someone like their sister, or mom or teacher, etc...
Sarah IS like anyone of those... UNDERSTAND...?
When people go into the voteing booth, they don't want some slick "Empty" suit, they want a REAL person, Why do you think Bush won..?
You many HATE that this is a fact of life, but deal with it, and get ready to re-organize your party, ONCE AGAIN, on Nov 5th.:-)

Turn off the MSM, ignore the polls and work on everyone you know under the age of 35. The less energy is wasted reacting to ignorance, the better the chances of a breakthrough in November.

Check out some of the better polling sites, like fivethirtyeight.com or pollster.com and you'll see that the EV count is still strongly in Obama's favor, although not as strongly as last week.
It's important to look at polling with some historical perspective. There's always a post-convention bounce that appears about two days after the convention, grows bigger, then recedes. Obama's bounce has been receding at the same time McCain's has been growing, so it looks like McCain is surging forward.
Give it another week and I'm sure the picture (poll averages) will look better for Obama. His campaign seems to be getting more aggressive, which should help as well. The wild card is media coverage for Obama or, in the case of the GOP, failure of the press to play the watchdog role effectively.

Bill,
I'm so very grateful that my mom and sis have nothing in common with Sarah Palin. As a result, I have learned to think and feel and interpret with some deference to the truth of a matter. Sorry your mum was such a putz.
