Freedom vs. Big Government: Palin Can't Do the Math
The political news of the day is John McCain's new stump speech. But there was an interesting Sarah Palin moment, as well.
Introducing McCain at the Virginia Beach rally where he unveiled his I-will-fight-fight-fight-fight speech, Palin, playing to the GOP base, declared that she and McCain believe in the "advancement of freedom," not the "expansion of government."
This is conservative cant: big government threatens individual freedoms. Think black helicopters coming to take your guns away. But has Palin not been reading the news about her own campaign? Her ticket supports the $700 billion Wall Street bailout plan, which will give the Treasury secretary expanded power. And McCain has called on the federal government to buy up bad mortgages across the country, at a cost of $300 billion or so. The math is kind of simple here: that's about $1 trillion in government expansion.
The question for Governor Palin is, does that mean $1 trillion less in freedom?

Oh Yeah, you betcha!
DC,
Reality, numbers, the truth all have nothing to do with the Mac and Cheesy campaign.
Forget a trillion dollars in bigger government - did you hear about the terrorist ties?

big government threatens individual freedoms.
It certainly does, as you've confirmed, perhaps unwittingly, by your own comments that followed.
Think black helicopters coming to take your guns away.
As if the left doesn't have it's own share of tinfoil hat-wearing loons...
Her ticket supports the $700 billion Wall Street bailout plan, which will give the Treasury secretary expanded power.
As does the ticket they're campaigning against. This factor is by no means an argument that favors one over the other.
And McCain has called on the federal government to buy up bad mortgages across the country, at a cost of $300 billion or so.
While his opponent proposes $100 Billion of new taxes on petroleum producers, which he says he'll distribute to Americans at a rate of $500 per person or $1,000 per family (who'll need it to pay for the higher fuel costs and subsequent higher transportation costs for all products, including food, that will result).
On top of that, he proposes to eliminate taxes for 10 million Americans (and the tax burden will definitely be shifted to other Americans in the process) while passing out $500 / $1,000 dollar "stimulus" checks to each of the 105.5 million American households (roughly another $100 Billion, and the money comes from where, when we're running the huge deficits we are, and have been?); a $50 Billion "Economic Jumpstart" and a host of other new spending schemes, and nobody notices the eerie resembalence to the Voodoo Economics of Reagan's campaign?!?!
Obama voters must be rubbing their hands together thinking about how they're going to get free money from the government, and somebody else will have to foot the bill. These people NEED tinfoil hats!!
Nope. NoBama and No McSame for THIS voter!
I'm going for a 3rd party candidate who CAN do the math; who's proposals take Economic Realities into account, and one who understands that the Laws of Economics can't be repealed by an Executive Order, no matter how 'legal' it may otherwise be.

Comrades! Rejoice! Tomorrow, the government begins the process of wresting control of 5 major banks from the greedy grasp of the capitalist pigs. When Dear Leader Barack takes the oath of office, he'll also take the keys to Well Fargo, BofA, Citi, Mellon, and State Street. With control of the banks, Dear Leader will control all industry! The glorious workers councils are forming now! Let all voices proclaim the new Socialist States of mid-North America. Capitalists beware. The righteous anger of the oppressed will not be appeased. The wealth redistribution squads will be trained soon, and will appear in your neighborhood soon. None will escape. Egalitarian justice will be dispensed! All Hail Dear Leader!

I don't think Americans fully realize just how much control government has over their lives already. Give some thought to how often you as a citizen must report information to and ask permission of state and federal government for various issues that arise in day to day life. I don't believe it is reactionary nor paranoid to see we are entering into the age of Big Brother government. The information age has greased the slide of our decline into a nation of kept sheep controled by the dogs of the ruling class.

Valkyrie:
I'll start worrying about big brother government when Jon Stewart mysteriously vanishes. Until then, I got better things to do with my time.

"Her Ticket" supported it, but the house majority - DEMOCRATS rewrote it, and passed it. Can't blame Republicans for this one.
