An Immediate Obama Effect in African-American Communities?
Spotted over at Ben Smith's space, an attempt by the Washington DC police department to stop gun violence by invoking the President-elect.
A quick look at the crime map application hosted by the DC police department shows that 1,726 crimes have been committed in the District of Columbia since Obama's election on November 4, an 11 percent drop from the same period last year. Unfortunately, homicides are up 100 percent, suggesting the need for this initiative and many others.

Wonder if the restoration of the citizen's right to keep functional rifles and shotguns, along with handguns has anything to do with the reduction in crimes?
Naaaahhh!
Can't be the citizens accomplishing something for themselves! Gotta' be the politicians!
All good things come from the politicians!
Anonymous Bosh, did you notice that homicides are up 100%?
Not saying there's any causal connection here... just saying.

Sure did.
Just as soon as someone shows me that a significant percentage of the homicides are being committed with newly, legally registered firearms, I'll admit that D.C. had it right all along, and lobby my representatives to re-establish the handgun ban and trigger-lock/disassembly requirements in D.C.
My presonal guess (and it's just that) would be that the homicides in D.C. are more often than not, drug related crimes, as they have been for decades.
Those have little to do with private citizens except when they're being robbed to pay for someone's drug habit.
FWIW: I support the repeal of most drug prohibitions, which would take the source of income out of the hands of criminals, and quickly put them out of their 'jobs'.
Sadly, those we elect do not see it this way, and would rather pursue what anyone can clearly see as a failed policy. (..but I guess that's better than admitting they had it wrong for 50 years..)
