Royal Dutch Petroleum is a holding company that owns the Royal Dutch/Shell group of companies. Formed in 1907 through the merger of the London-based Shell Company and the Royal Dutch Company, the firm is Europe's largest petroleum company. Royal Dutch has grown to include chemical manufacturing and power generation in its portfolio.
