During the Clinton administration, the U.S. has sold or approved the sale of $2.3 billion in arms to NATO founding member France. While rejecting the global spread of U.S. culture and Americanized phrasings like "le weekend," France hasn't hesitated to buy "le tanker aircraft" worth $220 million and "le Boeing" airborne early-warning and control aircraft in 1994 and 1995.
