32. Felix G. Rohatyn

A managing director of investment bankers Lazard Freres Co., Rohatyn is famous for helping New York City out of its bankruptcy in the 1970s by overseeing the city's tradable securities and suggesting federal aid. He was the rare member of Wall Street to raise concerns that the GOP budget plan, as he wrote in the New York Times, "takes significant risks with the social safety net." He told Mother Jones he gives because he's " hoping to maintain the Democratic Party as a viable alternative."
