6. Dirk Ziff

Ziff, the co-chair of Ziff Brothers Investments, showed no interest in maintaining the family's Ziff-Davis publishing empire and sold it in 1994. Save for a brief stint as guitarist for family friend Carly Simon (of the Simon & Schuster Simons), he's a publicity-shy philanthropist. According to publicist Jim Abernathy: "Dirk does keep a low profile and does not give interviews. It is his intent not to see his name in print. He is not concerned with dealing with the media. In general, he keeps himself out of the news."
