Following Newt's Money

"I raised so much money over the years, from so many different people that ... I don't owe anyone." -- Newt Gingrich

Far from owing no one, House Speaker Newt Gingrich has built his power base through a series of dubious transactions that look like political paybacks. At the center of Newt's political machine is GOPAC, which has raised and spent more than $8 million since 1991 while skirting the federal election laws governing PACs to avoid naming its donors.

The MoJo Wire has obtained a leaked list of 159 of GOPAC's major donors and is making that list available to the public in its entirety for the first time. Wherever possible, we have annotated the list with information about the contributors--corporate affiliations, other donations, legal troubles, etc.

These notes are still incomplete, however, and that's where you come in. If you have additional information about these donors, knowledge of other significant contributors, or corrections to our notes, send us your information. Once we verify it, we'll integrate it into our GOPAC Donor List.
