Morry Taylor
Maurice "Morry" Taylor is a Republican Ross Perot. At least that's what he'd have you believe. Lots of politicians have gone after the "Perot" vote, but none have gone and created themselves in his image. Morry has. The Ilinois tire king implies that his Republican affiliation is the only "big" difference between himself and Ross.
And on the surface, Taylor is right. His platform is virtually identical: balancing the budget, keeping U.S. factories from moving abroad, and campaign reform. Oh, and for the Republican in you, Morry pledges to revamp the tax system. And, like Perot, Taylor got out while the getting was good; after miserable showings in the primaries from day one, he dropped out in early March.
It's Perot's spiel as well: Politicians can't do the job; only a successful businessman can solve America's economic problems. Taylor has promised not to take any PAC money or accept any federal matching funds. Paying for his own campaign, Taylor says, will keep him out of the pockets of special interests. Sound familiar? Call it the Perot Principle. Don't spend your money to buy a politician, spend your money to become a politician.
