that costume is beautiful, and the wig is phenomenal! i am impressed! even the weapon is magnificent. i applaud everything here!!! i would never guess she just made it up, the design is phenomenal
If she told the photographer it's an original character, she wasn't being truthful. There's no mistaking that's Ruri, one of Menoumaru's servants from the Inuyasha movie,"Affections Touching Across Time." Colors, costume, weapon... All of it, right down to the magatama on her head.
Where I think you're probably correct, I can see where she may have wanted to avoid scrutiny next to the character. Even on Mother Jones, you'll get some stray idiot wandering in here to scrawl "your fat"(sic) in the comments. It's a great costume, but there is one glaring discrepancy which disappears when she's not being compared to the drawing.
Regardless of where the idea came from, I think it's gorgeous, the colors are brilliant, and it is obvious that a great deal of time and effort went into the making of the costume.
There's something quite melancholic in these beautiful photos, almost tragic, in that these very human people must go so far into a fantasy world to feel comfortable. It's an absolute shame that so many people in have posted such derisive comments about the people in these photos as well. Escapism obviously takes many forms, and the folks in these pictures were brave in a lot of ways to allow a photographer into this side of their lives and personalities. Well done, Elena.
