Edwards' Southern Comfort
One of the "two Americas" feels worlds away at this expansive Chapel Hill estate. 21,000-sq.-ft. home nestled on 100 acres; includes b-ball court, racquetball court, and pool. Valued at $5.4 million. Not enough space? Consider a charming 2,800-sq.-ft. beach house on the North Carolina coast for $1.03 million.

All that clearcut space looks like ass. Who planned that out?

for $5.4 it could have been a nicer place, but ... we do not discuss his taste, are we?

That clear cutting is definitely disgusting. So is the way these criminals get to live...
And yes, what about Ron Paul's house? I'd like to see what an honest living earns, not to mention he IS A CANDIDATE, and the ONLY candidate who makes any sense.
All these other candidates and the news about them is ridiculous. There's no talk about their policies or their records or what they've done haven't done. I understand the media is controlled but don't you people working there have any dignity? Stand up for your NATION and quit being such naysayers and quit following this mindless flock of sheep and the "new world order" bullshit propaganda - you can make a difference.
The support for Ron Paul is definitely one thing that gives me a lot of hope, cheers to all of you, let's let freedom ring again!

Love the deforestation from Mr. Trial Lawyer.

This photo was taken in the fall - note the leafless trees. What you see as 'clear cutting', city folks, is tillable acreage, planted in spring and growing magnificently in summer.

So John and Elizabeth have a luxurious home. He was a supremely successful lawyer. Can't he be a success and still care about others especially the less fortunate?

Where is Ron Paul's house?

Why don't you find Ron Paul's house yourself and post a link rather than bugging people about it?

Are those solar panels we see on the roof of the main house? This is a recently built home, cost per sq.ft. seems reasonable. Sure glad I don't have to clean and maintain it!

It's not a RACKETBALL court, it's a SQUASH court, and there's a difference. RACKETBALL is a more "blue collar" sport played by working Joes and working Sallies. Squash is an Ivy League sport. John Edwards's dad worked in a mill. John Edwards never did. Don't you forget it!

One: The land may have been cleared for security purposes.
Two: 5.4m doesn't sound like a lot for a 21,000 sq ft home. That's only like $250/foot. In NYC they've gone over $4k/foot for some apts.
Third: Squash is a better, more fun, and more fair game. WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU SERVE FROM A STRIP IN THE MIDDLE OF SHARED COURT, AS IN RAQUETBALL??? That's so stupid.
Maybe someone could discuss policy for a change...?

The beige areas appear to be zoysia grass, which is like a green carpet in the summer but turns brown for the winter. I don't think it is bare soil, as we don't have soil that color. Southern houses are low and spread out to manage the summer heat. To those who criticize the clear-cutting, I have one word: kudzu.

It also should be noted that a lot of those trees are pines--in the south those grow like weeds, and are often grown and cut for pulpwood.

"What security purposes?" Edwards is a former Senator who now is a professional presidential candidate. Look at others who are running for president? Do you see destruction of trees on their lands? Which is saying allot when you consider how much Republicans hate trees. The only reason he has done this is to build more. And how much is that going to cost his supporters? Edwards has some nerve talking about being for the little guy then living Rockerfellar. Give me a break. Actions speak louder than words.
Did you know Edwards has not held down a job since he left the senate. So, how does he pay for this house and support his family. By speaking engagments and supporters. He needs to get a real job. What a man of the people. (not!)

Ron Paul is a fraud. He wants America to be like it was after the Civil War: no check whatsoever on the power of corporations, no protection for consumers or workers, no environmental law. Forget about the Clean Air and Water Acts, or Antitrust laws; Paul says these are unconstitutional. Never mind that the guy published racist newsletters for the nutbar militia crowd for 20 years. He's a walking disaster, and so are his supporters.

The 21K sq. Ft. INCLUDES the BBall court, squash court & indoor pool.

I don't care how many solar panels, etc. a house like that has, if everyone on the wrong side of the "two Americas" owned square footage like that, it would solve our immigration problem. There wouldn't be an inch of America left.
