Shanghai

Symbols of modernity rise behind hold-outs in a neighborhood doomed for destruction. Families cling to the remains of their neighborhood as it is being demolished around them to make room for a new construction project, probably a high-rise building.

Didn't we used to have places like that in the U.S. before we quite similarly plowed them over to build high rises.
Good ol' urban renewal!...Sigh...

We have NEVER seen anything like this is America. 20 years from start of demolition /reconstruction of old Shanghai to end result showcase of Western Prosperity Shanghai. People evicted freely from homes and businesses by Gov't that owns all the land, leases same to foreign countries at huge profit to build with cheap labor high-rise towers.
