Dec 21: Professor Ha, Geneticist
Professor of genetics, Ji-hong Ha from Kyongpook National University in Daegu, South Korea has been breeding and recently, genetically mapping the Sapsaree dog since 1985.
During Japanese colonial rule in South Korea the Sapsaree were systematically killed for their hair, which was used to make warm clothing for the Japanese military. The numbers of the dogs dwindled down until only eight remained. Professor Ha's father began to breed the Sapsaree from the original eight, with the hopes of bringing the breed back to Korea in sustainable numbers.
Professor Ha has taken up where his father had left off and has also begun to genetically map the dog which will lead to cloning the Sapsaree's DNA.
Prof. Ha has taken note of Dr. Hwans meteoric success and subsequent failures rushing to clone animals without exhaustive research. Prof. Ha hopes to be able to clone the Sapsaree within 10 years.
