New Robe Nearly Complete

There aren't too many people making traditional ceremonial Klan robes these days. As far as quality is concerned, Ms. Ruth stands alone. All of her robes and hoods are custom made by hand. Continue »

Listen to the photographer talk about the reluctance of KKK members to let him photograph them:

Seems to me if you leave them alone, they will leave you alone...isn't that the basics of democracy???

Posted by: Nancy on 04/11/08 at 1:31 PM  Respond

yeah, because the kkk really has a long history of leaving people alone and living and let living

What a sad life, taking care of her daughter and believing in the Klan.

It's interesting how the former Marine photographer never indicates a questioning of the disingenuous line these people handed him. The cross lighting is of only religious significance, and never meant to demean any particular race? Riiight. It's all about "tradition" and "heritage" and don't forget God! So, he's both profoundly ignorant of the history of that organization's activities in this nation, and he's unaware of their current activities. Or, since he talks about being "honest" and "I don't judge" he's really signaling that he's in agreement with their beliefs. If that's the case, glad he's out of the military, but I wonder how many others sharing his beliefs are in uniform, armed up and roaming other nations filled with brown people and killing them in the name of America. As a person who has direct, unwanted, frightening, and unsolicited dealings with the KKK in this modern era, I find the unquestioning and uncritical stance presented by the "adopted son" of the racist seamstress working for terrorist organization in his home country rather sad.

So, when the KKK burned a cross in the front yard of a Black family they were just trying to proselytize Christianity?

Gimme a break.

hahaha. Live and let live? basis of democracy? no.

Posted by: ryan on 04/25/08 at 4:56 AM  Respond

So burning a cross, taunting people, using your group to make it seem you're all powerful, and to hate, is all about Christianity? Sure. I can see God creating all man to only have a purpose of being hated by KKK. Come on! This is absolute crap! How lost or even cold hearted do you have to be to join a cult who believes in God who is all love and fair, and claim that God doesn't love the "dark colored" people? That is terrible! God was born a Jew...Adam and Eve were located in what is now Iraq! I mean, come on people. If you read the whole Bible, the actual Bible, you'll know that God loves all man because He is the one who created each one in His likeness for a specific purpose, and hopes that they do what His will for each one, but sadly God doesn't make people love Him, and therefore we have choice to become whomever and whatever we want, and sadly there are a lot of KKK s out there lost and deceived by Satan.

America is in a bubble much like the soviets were in for 75 years, The physical traits carry no superiority, useful knowledge or skils are what do, I am at disbelief when I see or hear how really out of touch people are. when the maggots eat the flesh we all look the same isn't it, our deeds are how we are looked upon, plus for all the believers out there, there were no two men more powerful and more blessed than the kings Favid and Solomon, who controled all livings on earth and in the heavens, and guess what they were from the land of "Habasha" what is Ethiopia and Erithria today, so they were as black as they could be. Told you knowledge gives you superiority not some sick looking skin.

As a Black woman I am glad that I had the opportunity to read this - not because I agree with the Klan, but because in this woman I see someone who is striving for some of the same things as my family members. I have xenophobic and homophobic friends and family, but they are still good people. In the same way that God has given me the opportunity to understand to become a more loving person, I have to be patient as I pray for God to do the same for others. It does not mean that I am not willing to rally or fight for what I believe in, but it means that I don't have to hate the person who does not agree with me - because they could have been or still could be me on some issue that I have not worked out yet. Growing my own capacity to love has made my activism that much stronger.
