"The sportive, knightly battle awakens the best human characteristics. It doesn't separate, but unites the combatants in under-standing and respect. It also helps to connect the countries in the spirit of peace. That's why the Olympic Flame should never die."
– Adolf Hitler, commenting on the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games.

They once said “never again” but look at the state of the world. The only positive result of China hosting the Olympics is the light it is shedding on the human rights abuses by the Chinese government, not only in Tibet but in its own country. Why the IOC chose China for the Olympics is beyond my comprehension! I can hear Hitler’s words, only in another language.
Of course Tibet is important but why has Africa disappeared? No mention of Sudan, Darfur, Chad to be found anywhere. Why is Tibet the cause du jour? Does the word "genocide" leave a bad taste in everyone's mouth?
The Olympics in China turned Western eyes to all the glaring abuses that their government has created; Tibetan Genocide, vast water and air pollution affecting farm communities and city dweller alike. Over ONE MILLION Tibetans have died,
women, including Buddhist nuns are raped by the army, they force abortion and birth control on them. People disappear, they are imprisoned, tortured and executed. Darfur stands by Tibet as ongoing crimes against those people are heard even more loudly. Darfur is not forgotten. Tibet is our friend; the world sees both. The Olympics makes us look at an amazing Uprising that has taken great courage; if we had not given the greedy Chinese
Regime the Olympics, the Tibetan people may not have had this chance to be heard.
Ron, come on, have a say here. Did you not know what was going on in Tibet for half a century? I didn't know that much, but I have wanted to know why we did nothing. This time we are standing up to the Sleeping Giant. We will learn from this and we will go on to do more for oppressed and at risk people all over the world because next year we will have a new President. We will not go on being the bad guys.MKW
