End of the Day
A Mercury News security guard closes up the paper's main entrance. "I still believe in this place," Gee says. "I grew up with this paper, and this is the paper I always wanted to be at."
He adds, "We're just trying to do our work, and get stuff done. It's like any job. You have good and bad days. But we're trying to stay positive."

This is like watching a slideshow of my newsroom. The empty desks, the bone yards of disused equipment, the disturbing quiet that denotes a decidedly unhealthy atmosphere — we're all just hanging on, trying to do our best to keep the public informed and from the blogosphere from taking over the world.
Good luck to all the folks at the Merc' — we're all in this together.
