i see so much pain in this woman's eyes and face. if i were to venture a guess, she has been abused in ways no one should ever have to experience. i wish there was more about the stories of the women. may God bless each soul to find peace and goodness and real love.

One has to always keep in mind that everyone, maybe for only a brief moment was a mother's pride and joy .People;especialy desparate people sometimes make terrible choices.I heard a line in a movie once that said "It seems like we are born with two lives. One we make all of our mistakes with and the other we have to live with after that".

Ah yeah...here we have a Aryan sister. Pride in ignorance. They should require these women to attend education classes for the duration of their stay. If they get out maybe it will help them, if not maybe it will eliminate some of the violence inside.

Steve, you poor misguided soul. If you ever get the chance and have to serve a few, you my friend will side-up or you will die. "Educational classes?" This is America, we warehouse, we don't educate. Remember?

Steve needs an "Educational Class." Try a Women's Studies, perhaps. Why is SHE more ignorant than any of the others? She could be telling a story about her tatoo, about how she got it when her child was born or something. What do you know about it?

These women who are in these photos and who are behind bars for what ever offense they have been found guilty of are their for a reason. Some of them are their to be punished no matter what the offence is. People have to think of their actions and take respondcibilty for their crimes. What a shame and a lots to their victimes and themselves. Please stop blaming men for their problems and misshaps.

In this photo, as with the others, the women's faces seem to tell a story. The life worn dimness in their eyes seems Universal.

I won't presume to judge their character or how they ended up in such a bleak place, but our criminal in-justice system is designed to punish the poor while forgiving those who have wealth.

Even those who are considered "attractive" by our percieved norms, tend to not end up in places like this unless they have commited some heinous crime.

The thing that all of these women have in common is that they are all Human Beings.

What a sad collection of lost souls. It makes it hard to remember that these criminals are our sisters.

Throughout this entire essay, people commented on how their was no follow up or captions describing each woman's story. I think this was genius on the photographer's part. It makes people question and really look at the pictures to undertand their meaning. If their were word captions, I don't think the level of intensity would be as significant throughout the essay. Very well done.
