At issue

In March 1993, workers at Round Table Pizza restaurants in Oakland, Calif., decided they wanted a bigger slice of the pie. They called a boycott to force RT to improve working conditions. (Most fast-food workers toil at minimum wage, with few or no benefits.)

Impact

RT is no worse than any other chain, union organizers admit; it's simply the starting point in an attempt to unionize the nation's fast-food industry. The boycott--and its "No Justice, No Pizza" slogan--has expanded to Oregon and Washington. San Francisco-based RT declined to comment.
