Lincoln, now 200 and looking better than ever. This for the Goodwin "Team of Rivals" review in The New Yorker. Here also are Chase, Bates, Stanton, and Seward, all of whom had had designs on the White House but in a time of crisis came together to help. It took a tough guy in the center to hold this together. Lucky we had one who was a deep thinker and a mensch as well. Hoping for similar luck this year, natch.
