Brodner's Cartoon du Jour: Springtime for Limbaugh

Rush Limbaugh has cornered the anti-Obama rhetoric market now. Not afraid to wish the country ill if it means hurting the president, he goes way, way out there. Will the GOP lemmings run out there too? Looks like.
Jonathan Alter in Newsweek:
...Rush's audience remains huge, with a weekly audience of more than 20 million, and will stay large for as long as he broadcasts. If his listeners can forgive him sending his poor housekeeper into a parking lot to score drugs for him, they will forgive anything. But these folks no long represent the American mainstream. In fact, while 28 percent of Americans still identify themselves as Republicans, 29 percent call themselves independents. Plenty of the indies might still be listening to Rush, but they don't take their marching orders from him anymore. To them, he's just another entertainer.
When Obama first mentioned Limbaugh in a meeting with Republicans during his second week in office, he was chastised for elevating him in a way that didn't befit a president. But it quickly became clear that any contest between Barack and Rush was not really a contest at all—and that this is a fight the president is happy to have. The president's popularity is in the 60s, and the entertainer's, according to internal Democratic polling, is in the 20s. So Rahm Emanuel and Robert Gibbs are now piling on, describing Limbaugh as the "intellectual force" and "de facto chairman" of the party.
It works. And it will keep on working until enough Republicans grow a spine. When they show enough guts to ignore the thousands of calls and e-mails from dittoheads, maybe they'll get their party—and their self-respect—back.
Not "Fairness"
Rush Limbah tells it like it is. Freedom of the press guarantees in the Declaration state that journalists such as this man have the right to tell the truth and ensure that the American public are given the news. Why does the Fascist, Socialist Left always attempt to destroy reporters when they come from a different political philosophy? The "Fairness" doctrine will be stopped, and true journalism will continue.
stop apologizing for bloviated morons
It would be a lot easier to avoid "destroying"...so-called reporters (or was it entertainers...we switch sides so easily don't we) if they didn't insist on becoming lightnining rods by making hate-based statements to millions on a daily basis.
If Rush didn't want the limelight, he shouldn't have asked for it.
If he can't handle the heat generated by his "political philosophy", then he should find a less divisive way to express himself.
Rush is an ignorant, un-American blowhard who deserves what he brings on himself.
rush
Deane says "rush tells it like it is." Sure he does and his convictions are just this side of the KKK.
Rush Limbaugh is a blowhard who got out of the Draft in 1971 because of a cyst on his ass. Yes, the Vietnam War was winding down, but Rush still could have served in the Army. If he was a true Patriot, the same doctor that wrote that letter regarding his ass cyst could have removed it via a simple operation, and Rush could have stepped into line and served proudly. Deane, I don't understand how you can like this guy, but it takes all kinds.
While I respect free speech.
While I respect free speech. It is disappointing to see such a large audience for someone of Rush Limbaugh's Character. As far as considering Rush a Journalist.
That is quite a reach. Rush is a Media personality. He has never let the facts get in the way of an issue. Few have misled the American people more than this man. He
reminds one of a 21st century Archie Bunker. With an audience that takes him seriously. And that is what is frightening about the man. His following.
Limbaugh
Rush tells it the way he would like it to be.
The reason that conservative talk radio has thrived while liberal talk radio pisses money is very simple. Conservatives enjoy confrontation and arguments while liberals prefer consensus and serenity. Talk radio does not therefore favor liberals who soon run short of things to say. Conservs like Limbaugh and Hannity can go all day like as if they are all hyped-up on crank.
But onto the next point~ What do the conservs say? They used to be slightly more objective but as of 2009, they say anything that sounds like it supports their positions, no matter how disengenious or misleading. Limbaugh is the king of all Bentley bumper-stickers. His banter is not hypnotic because it is far from soothing enough. His education far exceeds his intellect. In a Hitler Administration, he and Anne Coulter would share control of the office of propaganda.
Cut taxes done balance the budget, says he.
Smoke cigars in public venues, don't cut our carbon footprint, he asserts.
Be a patriot, he insists--wish that the US president fails in his effort to resuce our economy from the past mismanagement, conducted mainly by Republicans.
Rush sucks. Luckily, he is far less dangerous then he used to be (when the middle class actually bought into his bulloney). Many of these same people are now part of the working (or unemployed) poor and no longer accept his 'Camp LeJune' style verbal drills.
Respectfully submitted~
Got Insight?
Growing up as a minority, I have seen hate. Whenever I listen to talk radio and hear people talk about illegal aliens, I can hear when someone is concerned about U.S. security or is foaming at the mouth. When I listen to Rush, I hear only concern for the U.S., no foam. Lou Dobbs, on the other hand, tends to foam.
Rush
I can't believe anyone from either side is getting this worked up about Rush. His speech was like watching Willard Scott address the Fourth Reich. If this is the figurehead these dullards want, we're all better off.
Rush
Limbaugh is a commentator not a journalist. He speaks what he believes or wants to be the truth. He is no different from Steve Brodner. Each throws in some fact mixed with opinion and call it news. Each are perceived as haters from the other side.
