He works for the Center for Media and Democracy, a nonprofit organization that he began with Rampton in 1993 to monitor and expose de- ceptive public relations campaigns and other propaganda sponsored by corporations and governments. They have coauthored five other books: "Toxic Sludge Is Good for You! Lies, Damn Lies and the Public Relations Industry," "Mad Cow U.S.A.," "Trust Us. We’re Experts! How Industry Manipulates Sci- ence and Gambles with Your Future," "Weapons ofMass Deception: The Uses of Propaganda in Bush’s War on Iraq," and "Banana Republicans: How the Right Wing Is Turn- ing America into a One-Party State."
Stauber founded the Center for Media and Democracy and its newsmagazine, "PR Watch," and serves as the center’s ex- ecutive director. He is an investigative writer, public speaker, and democracy activist, whose leadership on controversial issues began in high school, when he organized to stop the U.S. war on Vietnam and to support the first Earth Day.
