How to listen to a streaming broadcast
In order to play the Mother Jones Radio audio stream (.asx) you will need the Windows Media Player (version 9.x or above) installed on your computer. Just click the "Stream" link next to the audio icon (
).
If you have a recent version of Windows Media Player but still cannot play the stream, try pasting the stream url directly into the player.
Open Windows Media Player and go to the File Menu > Open URL... Paste in the above link and hit the "OK" button.
Note: If you have your Media Player in "Compact Mode," you will have to set it to "Full Mode" to see the file menu. You can view the player in "Full Mode" by clicking the grow button at the lower right corner of the player. If you place your cursor over it, the words "Return to Full Mode" will appear.
If a player window opens but the audio doesn't start, you may need to change your firewall settings to permit streaming media (please consult your network administrator or service provider).

How to download an mp3 file
As a general rule, if you click on the audio link, a small window should open in the center of the screen asking whether you want to 'open' or 'save' the mp3 file. Click 'save' and then choose the directory into which you want to save the mp3 (eg. My Documents).
Alternatively, use the other mouse button (usually the right mouse button) and click the name of the file you wish to download. A menu should pop up. One of the options on this menu should be to "Save link target" or "Save link as". If you click this you will again be prompted to select the directory that you wish to save the mp3. Select the directory (double click mouse button if necessary) and the file will start saving.
Depending on the speed of your internet connection, the download will take as little as a few minutes or take substantially longer for slower dial-up connections.
How to play an mp3
Once the mp3 file is saved, find the directory where you saved it and click on the file name (eg.'MoJo_Radio.mp3') and the file should automatically start playing on your media player. If you do not have a media player on your computer; check out the platform-specific information below and look for links to websites where you can download an mp3 player that is compatible with your specific computer software.
Platform-Specific Help
Windows 95/98/2000/XP: If you do not have an mp3 player on your MS Windows computer, you can download Windows Media Player here.
Mac OS: If you do not have an mp3 player on your Mac, you can download Mac mp3 player here.
Linux: If you are using Linux (Suse, Redhat, Mandrake, Debian, or other) you are probably very familiar with the 'ins and outs' of your computer so should not need any help in downloading an mp3 and choosing a media player to listen to the talk. But just to be on the safe side, you can download XMMS multimedia player from www.xmms.org and install it on your computer.
