Brian Eno and David Byrne to Join Forces Again
Sure, it's been 27 years since two of music's great pioneers put their heads together for a ground-breaking album, but hey, they've both been busy. Legendary producer Brian Eno and former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne have completed work on a new album called Everything That Happens Will Happen Today, and following in the footsteps of Radiohead, they'll be self-releasing it online at EverythingThatHappens.com. You'll be able to stream it free or buy the downloads starting August 18, but a preview track will be available for free on August 4.
The web site currently features a brief note from Byrne, revealing that he was the songwriter and lyricist while Eno did the music. In an interview, Eno calls the new material "electronic gospel," which could be good or bad, really, but doesn't sound much like their last album together. Their 1980 effort, My Life in the Bush of Ghosts, fused quirky samples with wildly diverse rhythms, a pop-culture/electro/world-beat mish-mash that was way ahead of its time. In fact, I'm not sure we've even caught up yet: M.I.A.'s 2007 album Kala basically follows the same formula and it still seems utterly groundbreaking.
After the jump, check out "America is Waiting," the first track from Bush of Ghosts, which loops talk-radio samples over a rolling, Cabaret Voltaire-style beat.

Hallelujah!!
The Talking Heads / Eno are excellent representatives of the LEAST creative or innovative, and most UNinteresting period in 20th Century music.
It's no wonder kids from the '80s turn more enthusiastically to the music of the '60s & '70s than they do the music that was being foisted on the radio-listening public during their own formative years.

Hardly "foisted on the radio-listening public" - most was pretty well hidden as most of that "radio-listening public" were listening to what, Air Supply or Meat Loaf...? but, hey, your mileage may vary, but for my money the music of Eno and the Talking Heads has all held up pretty well over the years.

And y'know, I'm surprised some rightwing talkshow host doesn't use "America is Waiting" for a theme song...! After all, their tune hasn't changed much since 1979...

After facing a lot of pressure in my mind i have got that America is really waiting for a "Theme Song". This discussion can give him a lot of energy to do so.

The Cabaret Voltaire reference intrigues me so I will have to give it a listen later.
And except for a couple of early songs, and a couple off of their next to last album, how much of the Talking Heads/David Byrne did Who F'ing Cares actually hear on the radio? I was born in 1970 and I couldn't give two squirts of pee pee about any of the music from that decade (not counting any punk rock from this era since most 60's and 70's music lovers don't consider punk music any way). Is he/she seriously trying to say Rock and Roll Hootchie Coo or the pap served up by the Carpenters or any of the know relegated to playing small state fairs 60's bands are actually better than any music Brian Eno, David Byrne, or the respective bands they were in made over their careers? If so then all I'v got to say is who effing cares what Who F'ing Cares thinks
