Consciously Crude: The Art of David Shrigley

13 twisted instances of deliberate naiveté.

"I’m not pretending to do anything in a really crude fashion," David Shrigley tells me. "I just am doing it in a really crude fashion." The Scottish artist, who has a new compendium of his art out this week, is known for his rough cartoons that might be considered bad if they weren't so bitingly hilarious and incisive. What follows is a characteristic selection of his uniquely morbid sense of humor. To read Shrigley's own take on his work (including an upcoming opera starring an egg and a potato), check out my interview with him here.
